---Final Round of Voting Now Underway!---

The Isle of Wight Steam Railway is appealing for votes from the public as it goes head-to-head against two other National Lottery-funded projects from across the UK, in the 'Best Heritage Project' category, in the final of The National Lottery Awards 2010.

The winner will be announced during a live BBC1 television programme, on the evening of Saturday 4th September.

Done - a worthy project in its own right, and also returning the favour of the many IoWSR people (and others) who voted for our disabled victorian carriage lottery project - which, incidentally, is going great guns!

Aside from the trophy, the railway received a cheque for £2000 which will go towards the restoration of LB&SCR Third 2403, the work involved includes extending one of the end compartments to give space for wheelchair users. What is possibly worth more than the money at this time is the publicity and credibility the award brings, as we have just submitted a follow-on HLF bid to part fund the £900k project for the construction of a rolling stock storage shed. The shed will enable us to store and exhibit our collection out of the elements when not required in service, giving increased visitor access and cutting down on the annual maintenance requirement. More details can be found on the IWSR web site:
