So the Bluebell have an evil plan to turn 323 into a Tornado copy. Though I heard stories on here of people who have been asked if a loco was Tornado despite it not looking like it and also having an obvious nameplate.

Also I've noticed in the shunting movements 847s tender is now at Horsted hidden behind the Carriage shed. Its noticeable in the picture on the Bluebell site showing the levelling for the line that Typhoon will run on.

Serving as a mobile MPD for the HK-based locos I believe.

Oh so that's why it was there yesterday. There's also two wagons, one full of coal, the other with coal and what I thought might be lighting up wood. It almost seemed like there were more locos at HK than SP yesterday!

I've just been informed how much frontage we've been allowed for our sales stand. Considering the site rental, the Bluebell are being a bit tight.

The wood is indeed lighting up wood.

Based at HK will be (I believe) FR20, Blue Circle, Baxter and Typhoon all weekend; and 672 "Fenchurch" and B473 finish there Friday / start Saturday; and 178 / 592 finish there on Saturday / start on Sunday.

Plus 92240, 75027, 21C123, 488, 96 and 9017 are there static - the engine shed seems very bare at the moment! I believe the footplate of at least one of these will be accessible, possibly 488.

Just to finish the line up of SP based engines - 65 will be in the Pullman Dock (and available for footplate visits I believe); 928 "Stowe" over the pit so visitors can see underneath her, with I think 1618 and 541 lined up alongside; 80064 and 80100 together in the shed to show Barry and non-Barry equivalents; the North London tank in the shed, probably with the USA tank. Which leaves 263 and 323 in the works; 847 and Camelot part-assembled in the yard; "Beachy Head" in Beachy Shed (OK then, Atlantic House...) and 84030 and 27 disassembled by Beachy Shed.

Oh, and 34059, 80151, 1638, 592, B473, 55, 672, 178 and Baxter in steam from the home fleet and FR20 and Blue Circle as visitors.

80064 and 80100 were on the same road in the shed on Monday, with 80151 next to 80100 on the adjacent road. Interesting comparison between working, previously restored and non-restored Std 4 tanks. 1618, 541 and 1638 were outside next to each other. 928 was in the shed behind 80100, and Baxter was half in/half out of the shed. From the looks of things only 263 and the boiler from 847 were in the works, it certainly looked empty in there.

Bluebell's rolling chassis should be at the top end of the works on the other road and it's boiler in there too.

Furness 20 has arrived facing South. So hopefully it will push the obo up to the tip so its easier to take pictures. Also 34059 hauled a Golden Arrow Pullman train (in full proper GA regalia and the arrows on the defectors will be carried over the 50th Anniversary weekend) up to the tip yesterday with 473 on the back to top and tail back to Kingscote.

Hope the weather isn't like it is currently in Sussex which is bucketing it down with rain, thunder and lightning.

Unfortunately if you believe the BBC weather forecasters it's suppose to be absolute crap weather on Friday with heavy rain and strong winds :(

Yes, the Kingscote - Imberhorne shuttles will be formed of the Observation coach with No.20 on the south end. As you say, much better for photography :)

    Cheers,
    Jon

Big brother DonBenn2000 reports a good climb up to the tunnel behind 34059 before 10.00 this morning. Clear blue skies here in Kent, hope they've got the same over in East Sussex.

My Dad and I thought today's first taste of the Anniversary was a superb show. Sheffield Park looked a little odd with so many of the engines missing from the shed but the model layout looked great and the idea to put together 80100 and 80064 as a "before & after" comparison was excellent. Having a good look at 32424 showed lots of progress being made on the project and we dug in our pockets again to sponsor another part of the engine, also Baxter looked nice with some wagons marshelled behind at H.K. A personal favourite for us was the display of nameplates/shed code plates at H.K and seeing a very rare 75G Eastbourne Shed plate! It was good to see Sir Archie back in action and Fenchurch top & tailing with 178 on the Mets looked superb. Although photters be warned, 178 is carrying those "Nettle" nameplates but let's hope they can be taken off for Sunday when she's due to double-head with 592?

Overall though a great start to our Anniversary Gala

Agree with you there David, a great day today down on the railway. The trains ran to time as far as I could tell and it was great to look around the behind the scenes areas. The drivers seemed to have fun at Horsted Keynes with every arriving train being greeted by a cocophony of whistles and even the klaxon from the 08.

    Regards,

    Dan

Agree with David and Dan. Brilliant start to the gala. I'm going to go off in minute for my second day and be there again tomorrow. Very difficult to get pictures of FR20 as it was being swamped everytime in came into Kingscote. Be posting yesterday and todays pictures tonight. What are the Specials running to the tip today with 55 and 672 and then 34059 and 473. Are these public trains.

Just got back now. Get there very early to go HK to Kingscote behind No. 20 in a slow but spirited climb to the tunnel. Trains ran full for most of the day, Baxter filled the gaps between trains at HK by shuffling round the station with a goods train. A great day indeed. Marred by a couple of heavy showers in the afternoon. Now I've about 250 photos and an hour's footage to go through.

An absolutely cracking day out today. I can't praise the Bluebell highly enough for all their hard work.
