First movement for 25 years 008.JPG Friday 10th July - the end of a busy week ! 001.JPG

Dubsy gained her full ten year ticket on Thursday and moved under her own steam for the first time in 25 years yesterday. Slewing engine has been tested under steam but not with jib, hoisting engine yet to be steamed.

We hope to have fully operational crane tank in time for the traction engine rally at Foxfield in September.

No Mr P&JR they were not rags burning in the smokebox !.

Ugly 62 continues to progress at Spa Valley, the saddle tank going back on last Friday and the chimney on Sunday. Thats the last of the big bits but there is still quite a bit to do but the light at the end of the tunnel seems to be on now! See pictures at

A future star is born !. She is powerfull and when we have finished the slewing & hoisting engines will be able to lift once more. We have done some cracking "real" charters in the past, who knows what the future may hold ?. Your video shows her moving within half an hour of the first chuff, drains not fitted to ensure that she could clear her throat.

Not my video - just one I found on Youtube. I couldn't get to the Gala but will hopefully make it over when Dubs is working again.

I'm really impressed by the time, money and effort which has been put in to this project. I suppose it won't be a major money earner but certainly a major attraction for the railway. Might it go visiting other railways in the future, I wonder?

Just done a bit more Googling on the Dubs and accidently found out that a certain blue tank engine's friend called "Harvey" is based on the Dubs. No - I'm not suggesting a repaint! Just thought I'd mention it ... <retreats to bunker before the flak starts>

Glenalmond - I informed the gang at Cranmore of your success with Dubsy - well done to all concerned. One member seems to remember that the hoist chain we had fitted was of a slightly different size to the original and did not mesh in the top pulley correctly, thus causing many of the chain jams I mentioned in an earlier posting. You may well already have checked this but if not, it might be worth a look. Sorry if my friend's memory is playing games but thought I should pass on the message just in case. I can confirm also that we never had any spare hooks for her - this from one of the original owners.

Just a quick note on activity at Tanfield, Hawthorn Leslie 0-4-0ST No. 2 was rewheeled in Marley Hill shed on Sunday. Anyone who remembers her in action during the '90s will be as eager as me to see her back in action! For those who aren't think of Sir Cecil A. Cochrane's prettier, slightly nosier, sister.

Great to see and looking good, would look even better with some nice vans behind it instead of those hulking great MkII's... but then we can talk! Ah well, hopefully the North Staffordshire Rolling Stock Trust will come good soon and we can have something more suitable.

Just a quick note to say that RSH 0-4-0ST No.7042 "Olwen" is back at Bronwydd Arms, and is now being slowly transformed from her BR Black livery (applied for the GWR175 event at the G&WSR, where it appeared as Swansea Docks shunter No.1144) back into a lurid shade of 'Percy' green, for this September's DOWT event.

On Saturday it made a very smart sight (mid-transformation), with green saddle-tanks and red bufferbeam, but with black wheels, underframe and cab. Almost like a 'sobered-up' version of Percy - very smart. Personally speaking, I'm not looking forward to having below the underframe painted green again....

Charter operators et al...if there's any interest in putting it back into black as No.1144 (and putting it on a rake of boxvans...Bristol Harbour perchance?) then you know where we are, and we don't bite! I'm sure we could be persuaded....

So enjoy a last look (for now...) at No.1144, seen here shunting the yard at Llwyfan, on its last duty before the repaint (pic by Rob Phillips, our Operations Director) - http://www.flickr.com/photos/oldmiwl/4828777312/in/set-72157624580679858/ . A whole set of his photos can be seen here - http://www.flickr.com/photos/oldmiwl/sets/72157624580679858/.

I see Avonsides 0-4-0st's 1865 Elizabeth and 1868 Barrington have possibly found new owners?
If so, does anyone have any info where they might be off too?

Barrington has been advertised in H.R. mag and on a well known internet site for at least 2 months! By the way if you read my posting, I haven't said it HAS been sold... but the AD has been removed this month for both engines QED have they been sold?

The one I'm really interested in is Elizabeth. She looked in reasonable nick when I saw her 2 years ago plinthed but understand a poor Firebox and minus most fittings must make it an expensive restoration. I hope she finds a good home and doesnt go the way Lord Camrose went.

I dont know the full details but Lord Camrose was scrapped about 1990, some years after Mountain Ash had closed. I believe it was in poor condition though. AE1945 may yet follow a similar fate. Once an engine is dismantled and out of the enthusiasts eye anything can happen, and not all engines can or will be saved.
