Well the two of us, John and I, had a very pleasant evening out, you all missed a good run. Leander was often very vocal and to add a bit of spice had a few minutes struggle, slipping at a climbing curve to a junction where there was a flange lubricator strategically placed. Not knowing the area cannot name it but no doubt John will add that info.
To all those doubting the wisdom of the new route, The train was well filled when it arrived in York and although quite a few got off, almost as many boarded. At each of the stops, Normanton, Kirkgate, Westgate, Woodlesford & Castleford there were at least 30 passengers getting off. We spoke to some and they had all been for the day to Scarborough and the ride behind a steam engine was what made it special. They did not appear to be bothered what was on the front as long as it was steam. So perhaps despite the doubters, it seems that WCRC have made a good decision from a marketing point of view.

Thats a nice summary of our evening Ralph ! Yes, she did loose her feet a little joining the ECB coming up to Westgate (from Kirkgate) but expertly handled, she got there without too much trouble. It was very heartening to see so many families with young children and groups of senior citizens re-living their younger years with a day trip to the seaside behind a steam engine!

I agree with Ralph, although some enthusiasts have moaned about the 'new route' it clearly captures the business from 'Joe public' that operations such as SSE must have to survive.

    Well done WCRC.

No, she seemed fine as far as I could see. As we left she was shunting the stock.

No worries Simon. Just hope 'Leander' isn't too poorly. She sounded on great form last night :(
