Subject to the usual caveats, turkish 8f 45160 is due to be operating at Toddington today, tomorrow and over the coming weekend when 92203 is planned to be the second loco in use, making an all non GWR motive power line-up. The 8f has been undergoing some minor modifications and finishing touches since completing 8 days in traffic over the recent GWR 175 gala. The loco now sports turkish identity plates, although as of last saturday the air compressor and receiver tanks were still to be fitted. Dont worry, it still looks fantastic !
Hopefully by writing this i wont automatically cause the loco line-up to be changed !
As for 2807 it was having a boiler washout over the last wekend and an inspection, i have no dates for running as yet but it will be very soon. I will let people know asap.

Andy: Is the 8F now in effect carrying a Turkish identity, rather than the "GW" one it sported for 175?

The 8476 livery that the loco carried at the gala was only ever for that event (the numerals were vinyl transfers). 45160 is the number that TCDD allocated to the engine when operating in turkey and I am informed that it will stay like this for at least the rest of the year, with a change to LMS 8274 at some point. Points of interest are the right hand drive - even though all the ejector pipework etc goes down the left hand side as per normal stanier locos, an american style plug regulator valve (as against sliding) and Freedman injectors - very compact, but certainly pump the wet stuff in when req'd.

re the 8f's sat in turkey, yes they will require considerable time and money, but remember they are reasonably complete and although not used for several years have not been sat next to the Bristol channel for 20 years.
45160 has been running very happily for the last few weeks at Toddington with most crews now now having undergone the 'conversion' course. and this weekend should see the two 'newbies' running together i.e. the 8f and 2807. Im firing at some point over both days - just dont know which loco is on which train yet ! Hope I get the 28 on sunday as my driver is an ex BR south Wales fireman who know's a thing or two about 28xx's.

Unfortunately, a large number of other countries do not hold railways in the same degree of affection as a percentage of Brits do.

What you see at the Turkish museum is repeated across the globe

I guess the enthusiasm may not be there because they are not in steam. I know I would be far less interested if I didn't actually get to see any loco's running regularly.

Not entirely. My visit in April was off a Thomson cruise ship docked at Kusadasi. It was the 'lunch' stop on a tour to Ephesus. However, I notice that my Cunard cruise in November doesn't have the same excursion opportunity at Kusadasi.

    Re: Turkish 8Fs

There seems to be a mis-conception that the 8Fs built at Swindon (8400-8479) were fitted with GWR ejectors when built. Only 22 of the locos were fitted as such and the equipment was not fitted until the mid 1950s, when the said locos were transfered from LMR sheds to WR sheds. 48476 had the standard LMS ejector fitted throughout its life.
