I have recently bought an HD video camera. I use Pinnacle 14 editing software on my computer. Is it possible to purchase a Blu-Ray disc burner to convert HD video to DVD?

    Many thanks. <BJ>

To burn a DVD your editor should be able to render (convert) them to mpg for standard definition.
If you want to burn a blu-ray, yes you'll need a blu-ray burner.
Either way you'll need software to "author" a menu system etc. Perhaps pinnacle has this built in, I'm not familiar with it.

Of course you could just burn your files to a DVD disk, you won't get a lot on and some modern DVD players can read and play the files.

I use Pinnacle 14 too and it will render to HD formats either to a disc file (for use on the computer or YouTube) or for a DVD. You will need a very powerful computer (make sure you read the system requirements blurb to check if your computer will do it) and install Blueray writer hardware and burner software.

A number of suppliers sell Blueray hardware and software including Maplin, Misco and Amazon. Put a search into Google and check prices and availability.

    All the best!

Pinnacle 12 will also make Blu-ray files, but not having a burner or player I cannot say what it's like.

I bought an LG external BluRay burner as it had good reviews and wasn't overpriced. The model number is BE06LU10 and it has performed very well. I transfer my footage edited with Corel Videostudio to BluRay discs for archive purposes.

Many thanks for your replies. I've also received a recommendation about a model produced by Lite-on.
The IHBS112 model sounds excellent and retails at around £90. <BJ>

The point that Austin is making about archiving is important. I archive to two external HDD but I also, when I'm away for the weekend, backup files to a netbook so if the camera comes a cropper ...

I am interested in the external BluRay drives ... might do but of exploring on that topic.

    Regards
