Sorry about the mis-information earlier. Turns out my source was wrong about Stafford but right about not going via Chirk. Could be a good day, with several opportunities to get ahead of the train. Let's hope the weather's kind!

I'm not familiar with most of the railways around Birmingham. Wonder if anyone knows the gradient at the Old Hill section over what kind of distance? Can't seem to find it in the gradient profiles book.

    Thanks for any help.

Ontime through old hill, brilliant sight of the pannier and Leander working real hard.

I felt sorry for the people on the other platform. A booked dmu stopped at the station, when the train from bridnorth came through

Roughly it's 1 in 51 from Cradley Heath station through Old Hill station into Old Hill Tunnel, the gradient eases a bit through Rowley Regis station to a summit just beyond.

5690 & 9600 picking up speed through Lye this morning accelerating towards the foot of the bank just as the morning sun comes over the Tree's: http://david1984.fotopic.net/p67490642.html , did try and get a closer shot of 9600 going away too but her exhaust hung in the air obscuring the view until she was well away around the bend, can't have everything i guess.

Leander is due to be running on the ELR tommorow so I'd imagine it's gone straight there.

Saw her get stopped on the bend short of Wolverhampton as a local went on the main line towards New Street. Great start off and even a bit of slipping going on!

Saw 5690 come through Warrington yesterday. I should mention that Warrington BQ station was left in a cloud of black smoke after 5690 had gone through. Nice sight & sound to behold, but probably didn't get any kind remarks from the station staff.
