Quick one for Kieran if he has five.

Just noticed the roster for Sunday doesn't have the "detach D", "attach A to rear", etc, key, any chance of posting on here please as to what is added/removed and where.

Also, do the trains arriving at Keighley allow for connections (5 mins shown in timetable) for the shuttles to Ingrow West (hope so?).

    Many thanks for your time.

    Best Regards

All connections are timetabled for 5 mins yes - there may be a few that arnt quite that tho.

Sorry but cant give an updated timetable as only on for a few mins with an update. But anthing at Haw loop in brackets is collection or drop down.

Friday: - Std 5 was taken back onto shed to fix a small problem, returned an hour later no problems. Centrainly barks.
The 8 coach XP was certainly highlight of my day this evening! Std tank and WD making noise!

73129 developed a steam blow from the right hand front cylinder cover, which led to it being detatched to Haworth yard at approx 1.30pm. After investigation the cover was removed and refitted with a new gasket. Returned to traffic attached to the front of the 15:20 from Oxenhope. It seemed to be running fine when I left.

If any KWVR volunteer can help, I appear to have lost my hearing. Lost it at some point on the 1650 off Keighley somewhere between Ingrow and Haworth, possibly even Ingrow Tunnel. If you find it could you let me know so I can get it back?

Great Gala despite the failure and loss of my hearing, thanks for all your efforts.

    Cheers for the info Kieran

I guess the public TT must differ from the actual WTT if less than 5 min connections on some trains.

    Best Regards

Having 73129 makes for a very interesting visit.

I can't understand why you would want to miss out on this gala just because the engine is tender first up the bank. I spotted some new locations where you could get broadside to the engine and you don't have to photograph all day. I spent yesterday traveling.

73129 is unlike any engine I have heard before and incredibly loud. I think it fair to say that the drivers are unfamiliar with caprotti locos and need more time to get used to the handling characteristics which in this short visit they are not going to get. The noise on setting off makes it sound as if the front end is priming as its a rather drawn out beat, once it gets going it continues to be loud but becomes more percussive. The engines minder yesterday was an ex Nottingham BR man who worked on these engines and he was telling me it is just as he remembers them in BR days. I was told the engine was worked on 75% regulator and the cut off was 60% in the morning. On the evening runs it was full regulator and 40 -50% cut off so it was working very hard. The firemen found it a very free steaming engine. It is great to have the opportunity to see it working on a steeply graded line and it's an impressive looking engine.

The freight train is 13 wagons and that also looks good. Thanks to everyone for organising a great day and for getting 73129's cylinder gasket replaced so quickly.

Just a quick aside if I may. I recently picked up a tourist guide to Derbyshire, and inside was a superb image of 73129 piloting 71000. Photo I think taken from the signalbox at Swanwick Junction, Midland Railway Centre. 73129 has a "25th Anniversary" headboard.

Can anyone connected with 73129 say "when" this image would have been recorded please? I dont recall 71000 visiting the MRC in recent times.

    Thanks

73129 and 71000 were together at the MRC in 2006.

I friend Richard Griffin was driving all afternoon & said that there were no real problems with the driving of the engine. The phone rang in our tea room at 1.15pm, the message said that the engine was "Loosing steam on the righthand cylinder". Decision was quickly made to get the engine back in the yard for investigation & repair. On arrival it could be seen that the gasket had blown on the cylinder & we decided to repair it straight away Three of us removed the VERY hot cylinder head & profiled a new gasket, even with heat proof gloves the heat was very bad on the fingers. The job took about 45mins to complete.

Had a good time today at the KWVR.
What a great sounding engine 73129 is, its been a while since I heard something that loud - had two very noisy runs up the bank with it today.
Thanks to all involved for organising another great gala.

I had a very enjoyable day out at the Worth Valley today. Enjoyed a lot of thrash with 80002, 73129 & 90733. Had a short shuttle ride behind Bellerophon. And had the thrill of a triple-header from Haworth to Keighley. Something that I've not done in a while at K&WVR.

Massive praise to all volunteers who made the day so enjoyable. Many thanks.

Throughly enjoyed our visit today, well done to all involved.

    73129 is LOUD!!

Enjoyed the double headed blasts up to Oxenhope with 957/41241 and to Ingrow with Bellerophon & Nunlow.

80002, 90733 also putting on spirited performances!

Some minor 10-15 minutes delays here and there during the day, but all trains ran as far as I know.

Perhaps somebody "in the know" can explain why it took so long for 73129 to leave with the 11:25 ex Keighley and later why it always appeared to have to run back to go forward on the 15:45 ex Keighley - just curious.

Great days entertainment, the sun shone and it seemed very busy.

    Roll on 2011.

    Best Regards

Also interested, the regulator seemed to send everything straight through the chimney, lots of tooing and fro ing on the footplate, then 957 did a positioning move, and then she set of again with just a slight 'gurgle'.

waited at Damems to wathch the 6 .15 express go past, could hear it setting off from keighley.... wow.

    wait for it...

I was at the other end bringing the 9 coaches down the hill BUT it was reported to have had its vavles stick even with full reg and full reverser. They went to move 957 to "help it" and it started moving on its own !
The Sunday night express was quite something, speedo read 24mph as top speed! But the noise certianly was something - even from the rear of the train!

All in all a fantastic weekend with no failures - 15 mins down at max but recovered by the next trip.
Ill look forward to all the pics and vids!

73129 WILL BE WORKING TRAINS NEXT SATURDAY - 16TH OCTOBER.
