Ah but are you aware that it is an LMS one and not a Southern Railway one?

The main differences being that the Southern Railway one have elongated ends with sand boxes, gates to the veranda,s and are fully fitted and not just through piped.

I have to admit that when I enquired about this one , I was unaware that LMS "Queen Mary,s" existed.

Eric Tonks book on the Leicestershire Ironstone has a good picture of one of the LMS bogies used for ore trains, think it was for the Holwell branch?

OK, the photos show a standard LMS 4w brake van (concrete weight version). Most certainly NOT a bogie brake van and not something I've ever seen referred to as a 'Queen Mary' before.

Ho hum. It was a nice fantasy, for a short while.

To clarify the S.R. 'Queen Mary' situation, the only vehicles still awaiting restoration are one at Foxfield & one at the Severn Valley, both of which are owned by individuals. There is one other at a private site in the Midlands, which was the last one on the network (at Bescot).

I have always understood that Queen Marys were the LMS version.
This from the mid 70s when 2 were acquired for Steamport Southport by a member who was involved with BR Freight in the North West.

The one at Foxfield has been subject to many offers to the individual that owns it from within the society, it's such a shame as a it would to such marvellous van in operation, especially for rides on the bank...

Has anybody tried to acquire the 'Queen Mary' from the Severn Valley ,or is that another one which will sit there forever.
The one at Foxfield is complete steelwork wise but needs all of the woodwork replacing & a major preparation & painting job.
It could probably be restored for £3 - £4 k using volunteer labour.

    Bob.
