Bit of an overeaction Hatherton, hot boxes happen all the time on all sorts of traction and with steam tours they often give a false reading anyway, if anything the lineside equipment is at fault for that one, sure i remember reading when 2857 was heading the Mainline Freight home from Newport in the 80's it was setting off hot box detectors left, right and centre.

I have to agree. The more we have doomsayers expressing these views the worse the prognosis. I have been stuck on a Pendolino twice in the last three weeks as a result of a failed unit holding traffic. It's not only steam that has this potential. Even almost new out of the box sets cause delays due to failure. Perspective??? Operators maybe need to factor in insurance against charges which does mean passing the cost to the passenger but hey ho! As long as NR get their pound of flesh...

Can someone who was on this trip give a full review of this tour? even the return journey seems to be the talking point where the duchess was over 1HR late i believe?

Gee wiz, nice piece of track there just past the foot crossing, you can see the dip before the train goes over it. See how the loco and tender bounce up and down. Bet that was fun for the footplate crew.
