Hello - do any of our friends on the Bluebell know whether excavation of Imberhorne will restart this year? I believe it was announced in the summer that work would restart for a limited period in the autumn but I've seen no mention since.

This is discussed in the thread on the East Grinstead Open Weekend. Which makes this thread redundant, doesn't it?

Had the other thread's title given any indication that it discussed the Imberhorne question then I would have read it, but it doesn't , does it?
And when I went to the thread I had to scroll 6 pages to find the subject discussed, but it still didn't answer the question I asked, did it?

Just as an aside to this,it does seem really disappointing how out of date the Bluebell website is on its extension section. It does not seem to have been updated since August and is still "inviting" people to an event which happened on the 4th Sep,seven weeks ago! If they are as desperate for donations as I believe they are surely it is imperative to keep this part of the website updated on at least a fortnightly basis

The last ive seen said new siding/extended railhead imminently with possibly more excavations towards the end of the year, though subject to change as always.

The other thread gave a very valid reason why it does not make sense to commit to a specific date a long time in advance. As the cost of the excavation/re-disposal is based on weight it makes sense to remove material which is not waterlogged, otherwise the Bluebell pays for shipping water.

It would also make sense to wait until the finance is available to remove a substantial amount of infill, rather than just a few trainloads, then stop again.

Spring or summer excavation is usually to be preferred. Drier / lighter soil, longer working days, no frost and no nasty ruts to trip up site vehicles. Generally less downtime so everything is usually more efficient.

On the train at Kingscote yesterday Nigel Loundon, who I think is one of the heads of the extention team (I could be wrong!) was walking through collecting donations and explaining the project and he said to a few guys sat behind me that more would be taken out the tip before the end of the year however it is weather (and also money) dependant for the reason given in the post above.

Looks like it will be next year then, on a premise of increasing wet/icy weather, short days and less money available as the cuts begin to bite. (Not a criticism but an observation!)
