This maybe of interest to some people out there. I see UK steam info web site has now put up rail tours for 2011. The only real interesting information on here is the Great Britain IV tour in April 2011

What about the Steel City Circular from B'ham and taking a circular route through the East Midlands on Feb 12? http://www.vintagetrains.co.uk/tours/vt2011_0212.htm
And then there's The Collett Double with two Castles along The Berks And Hants to Bristol on March 12. http://www.vintagetrains.co.uk/tours/vt2011_0312.htm

Because you need to get the nod from NR that the trains and routes specified are suitable. I think you'll find that nearly all the tours for 2011 on UKsteam are to be confirmed, apart from the annual regulars like the Torbays, Shakespeares and Scarboroughs.

73129's comments were posted in May, when there was very little in the 2011 programme, other than the outline of GB4 and some VSOE trips. It's filling up rapidly now. I see that dates for The Fellsman, The Lakelander and The Torbay Express have been announced already, as well as Steam Dreams' annual SR End-of-steam commemoration on 9th July.

Out of interest, what would be the 'most wanted' trip for 2011? Mine would probably be 34067 either heading into Wales for a jaunt or heading up north over the S&C or Shap.

5043 solo over the Devon Banks ( or if not viable doubled headed with 5029) or
5043 to Tenby/Pembroke Dock ( with 2 - 3 stopover in Tenby) over Cockett Bank bothways

I wouldn't say no to a trip to Pembroke Dock, either, as its on the last branch (apart from the oil terminal and Trecwn) I need to cover by steam in Pembrokeshire (even though I'm local, I've never used the service train to Pembroke Dock, either). However, RTC have stated that they are not interested in going west of Carmarthen to Milford Haven and Fishguard any more because of the logistical exercise involved and the lack of time at the destination, whilst the Pembroke Dock branch has limited scope for pathing. That means we'd probably have to pin our hopes on Steam Dreams (who haven't really done terribly much west of Cardiff apart from the now annual jaunt to Swansea), Pathfinder or Vintage Trains to deliver the goods in this respect if we are to have steam at all in deepest West Wales again.

Clan Line up to York and a blast up the West Coast to conquer Shap. Whilst were are at it a bit of late night Bulleid action down to Weymouth with that pub crawl that was spoken about in the other thread :)
A king out of Paddington wouldn't go a miss so long as it was on a date that I could make.

I'm certainly looking forward to Tangmere's return to service and to seeing Braunton on the mainline for the first time. Apparently, both London - Weymouth and Bristol - Weymouth will be regular trips again next summer, and Tangmere has been mentioned as one of the "pool" locos for the ex-London trains.

How about Tangmere on an "up" RTC Weymouth and Braunton on an "up" Cathedrals Express (perhaps from Bristol or Yeovil) chasing each other up the LSW main line: one takes water at Basingstoke as the other hurtles past then stops at Brookwood for water, as the first roars through on the fast. They then terminate in adjacent platforms at Waterloo about 5 minutes apart. Not impossible...

Latest Heritage railway mentions a month long stay in the south for 48151 next year. She is provisionally doing a few tours for SD including one with 60163 working from London to Exeter with the 8F coming on for a run over the South Devon banks. There is also a trip with 48151 from London to Canterbury for Fathers Day.

I wouldn't have thought an 8F would fit around Kent. Happy to be proved wrong though.

An 8F isn't really any bigger than a Black 5, except in the coupled wheelbase. Height, width and axle weight are quite modest, really.

    60163 + 48151 is a novel combination!
