Good to see her back on the ML. Now we will soon be able to see two of these fine machines storming along with that super roar and those spine tingling chime whistles.

    Its not grey pipework.

Its lagging for the injector steam/exhaust feeds and its white! something i doubt will stay white for long.

wondered when the first livery bashing was going to start?

wonder what everyone is going to say when it has a big air pump bolted to the front!

Seriously though to Steve and all the lads at LNWR a hearty well done with the overhaul, its a superb example proving that Crewe is still very much at the forefront of steam!

I see she wears her 5A shedplate with pride

Britannia left Preston soon after 4.30 so you better get out quick if you want to see it and not miss it like I did!

Must say that she looks quite tasty in black. Two Brits on the main line, we're getting spoilt for choice. :)

I am under the impression that 70000 is due a test run tomorrow from Carnforth - Carnforth Circular

Only Time I have for it at present is 1437 at Langho...

But I am NOT sure if this will have 47500 with it as insurance???

We will just have to wait & see...

I think it's going to look a fantastically meaty machine, and if it p***es the purists off, even better! :D

Well the guy checking the front LHS is Mick Kelly, he's the one who drove 5043 south over the S&C on the Pride, so that speaks for itself.

    Re: 70000 "Britannia" at Crewe

    Thanks for the info

I'm not a livery basher, I love to see loco's in every livery, black, green, maroon, purple, yellow, er well maybe there are limits :)

I just saw the pics and thought the prominent lagging looked a bit weird, it stood out a bit, and when I looked at the older pics of Britannia and pics of Oliver Cromwell to refresh my memory I saw there was not the same feature on them.

I agree with everyone else that it's brilliant to see Britannia out and about, she looks great in black, and I'm looking forward to a black-green combo with 70013.

PS I even like Olton Hall

Nice comment Mr Heath - very nice! Next time you're holding out a begging bowl for a restoration project, you may be very lucky if some people widdle in it

hmmm, wouldnt be the first time a steam test run from carnforth has been reported as cancelled, yet still run. I will remain sceptical and keep my ears open. not cancelled on TOPS as far as I know.
