I see that both the Steam Dreams and Railway Touring Company sites claim that they will be using 70000 on 23 April next year. Whilst I know that plans can change and locos become unavailable, isn't it about time that Tour Operators confirm locomotives with owners before publicising trips. I had hoped that this kind of speculative stuff was long gone but it seems to be alive and well.

So which one is telling 'porkies' then?

Perhaps they will stick the 70000 number on 70013?

But the SD information was announced more recently, so is probably more credible. IIRC, the RTC GBIV arrangements are "provisional" and subject to route and loco changes. They were publicised so far in advance of the actual tour that I'm not at all surprised to see changes.

I wonder if the custodians of Ollie and Britannia have agreed not to appear together except on special occassions? I can understand that they'd like the combination to remain something special. I know that the B&WR and Quainton had an agreement that the Beattie Well Tanks would only appear together at their own events (or perhaps at the NRM?) for a period of time.

Personally, I think occassions like Fri 3rd Dec, when 70000 and 70013 are supposed to arrive at Lincoln on separate trains, are more impressive. Mind you, there must be some doubt whether either loco will be available for those tours, with just 3 weeks to go...

I agree the SD information is probably more credible.

60007 is now show as doing the SD trip on the 3rd.

It was suggested on another thread, that since 60019 is on the return of the "Tynesider " on the 27th( only as far as York) that it might be doing the RTC trip on the 3rd.

If you are right (and SD has a pretty good track! record of delivering what they advertise) then you wonder how much more of the RTC blurb may be a work of fiction. I still find it amazing that they can be so specific ("Two Britannias to Penzance") on their site when all they may actually be saying is that it will be steam!

Steam Dream never advertise a trip with a locomotive until they have cleared it with the loco. owner. Other Railtour companies have been known to advertise tours and the first the loco owner knows is when he sees the tour advertised featuring their loco.

One Tour operator is well known for doing this then telephoning the owners and begging for their loco. to "Help maintain his credibility" This individual has even been known to advertise a loco. as being on one of his tours when the owners have already told him it is not available during the period he is advertising the tour!

This I can tell you from personal experience

I see in Steam Railway that 70000 is scheduled for an interesting SD trip on Valentines Day. A trip from London Victoria to Brighton known as the 'Brief Encounter special' also earlier in the day deos a London Circular. Personally I can't wait for this because I can go see to Haywards Heath and see it and if I'm lucky may make a waterstop there.

I hope Brighton becomes a regular SD destination seeing as Chichester wa dropped this year.

Edit: Maybe not its the only SD trip listed for Brighton between February and October.

Doubt it would water on the way down but this should be a good run. Preston Park for me on the return for sure as she should be working hard after departure from Brighton.

I'll probably see it twice at Haywards Heath. I hope it does stop but when 70013 did the Hove,Chichester,Portsmouth trip last year it flew through Haywards Heath so I would love 70000 to do something similar. However before 70000 in February I'll be there to see the Bath and Bristol trip on December 11th.

Steam Dreams website and Steam Railway say 70000. But being a trip still 3 months away anything can happen.

It was stated in Steam Railway Issue 380 and another thread in this forum, that it would not be expexcted to be the same loco for both trips, due to the logistics of the day.
