News on the BBC website that Buxton water have outgrown there factory at Buxton and are looking to move.
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-11758453

am I right in thinking that Peak rail own the land here?

surely this could be the ideal oppotunity to start another steam centre there again, the bridge is there, with a line alongside network rails to Millers dale now that they seem to be a bit more flexible than BR used to be, and then work the way along and join up, like the 2 Great central railways are doing.

and hopefully one day see scenes like this again :) albeit without the blue pullman

    what an absolutely gorgeous picture!!!!

    off topic;Matlock Riverside works

trackwork for installing the point to connect us to N.R finished, some minor shovel ballasting to do thats all, s and t work nearly completed ,still some fittings to finish off on the current handpoint as kind persons previous had used the space where the switch extensions were for spacing blocks,so wel fit them on monday, and start with bonding up the track circuits too, then rest of week will also screw the signal pulleys and put the stakes in place for the signal wires.

its looking like the last job will actuallly be fit the point rodding in place with the jcb,as we can overtake the works quite quickly once the cabin goes up.

next job on list is install insulated fishplates, mount signals at derwent end in place.

will start prewiring the location up at rowsley hopefully this coming week too.

the land from the connecting point will need to be dug out to remove associated crud and wash thats accumulated from the quarry, but at least we know where wel start building the box base next.

many thanks to John,Ian,Pete,Paul,James,Stuart,Kev,Tom,Dougie,Rob,James and all for your help on our side of the works so far.

fraid not, most of all of that went under the bypass im afraid, the old goods shed that housed the deisel group is now a toilet/bus station building as part of the developments.

the large goods shed got dismantled and is now where the car park is.

off subject i was at the old buxton steam site today recovering some old concrete roller stools for reuse at Matlock.

reason I ask is because of the point and buffer stop installed, I imagine then that that is a catch siding?

I've taken a couple of photos showing the development at Matlock Riverside where PR will join NR, the first was 5 November and the second 21 November. Job not finished yet of course, and the telephoto is unkind to trackwork!

    Cheers

Interesting work indeed! I thought the loop was originally to be relaid to flatten the current curve into Riverside and also allow the slewing of the track over bridge 35 back onto the load bearing members of the bridge, especially if the special guest trip of next year happens?

Steam Railway made mention of 46115 taking a trip to Peak Rail next March - in Tony Streeter's Main Line column.

The loop was relaid last year to get the tracks parralell which now accomodates the point between us and NR, it's also freed the space up for the box

bonding work completed and a point detector fitted ,next job signal pulleys

    thanks Pete

that seems a bit strange to me

I would have thought at the end of the platform at platform 2 or near that area.

is Riverside station and the run around loop there going to be taken away when the access to platform 2 is finished?

I notice that there is no mention of PR using the disused platform at Matlock. Has that plan fallen through?

    Regards

No the work taking place at the present time is for access to Matlock station and also to allow trains from the network onto Peak Rail
I have recently made a collection of photographs of the preparation work by the S & T Dept they can be seen here

    great photos Pete, thanks.

so why does the box have to go there and not nearer the station?
is it because the land is Network rail's?

I would have thought at the end of the platform would be the ideal spot, so the signalman can see trains, and itd look nice too, punters could walk up and have a peek inside.

once Riverside station and loop is taken away, seems the box will be out on its own a bit.

will the fence and gate remain too?

    Mike
