future gala wish lists

1950 Southern Region Gala, first one at Mid Hants because they have the stock and the stations already in that time era , and i would have another later at the Swanage railway , engines such as the M7, 30120 and 30777 could be transfered by rail in one movement to save on costs again aidded by their home fleet, that way you get two galas ,but with vastly different line ups but thinking along these lines, if the T9 is travelling, a visit to Oakhampton either on the way out or back , would be another way to cover costs by spreading it as far as you can

As said before, a 1967 gala across all the railways in the South during the course of the year, using each railway's individual charms - I.e. Bluebell's pre-grouping, KESR light rail, Swanage's seaside branch, Mid Hants secondary mainline route theme and the Isle of Wight for the Island theme. Hopefully the Spa will be able to offer the country branchline but also the old steam shed feel with 75F!!

That way locos could be made available to each railway then and each event would be different!

The GC would and could be a great place for a mega gala because of the double track and if a higher speed could be obtained would give a real main line feel. A good selection of Black 5s and with the two Brits working non stop runs from end to end of the line would be magic. Also don’t forget a 9F to work the Windcutter wagons.

 

If were talking a few years off then i would have a the unknown warrior. Kolhaphur or Bahamas. Royal Scot. Black 5. 8f. Princess Elizabeth. Duchess of Hamilton in all her streamlining. City of brum out of its cage. 2500 on small local services. All at the churnet when we have all lines up and running but i would build a station at leekbrook junction so you could have mainline cert locos going leekbrook to stoke then jump off for a thrash up to cauldon lowe. And other services going from leek through the three tunnels to alton. 2023 for the 100yr celebrations of the lms. I really hope so.

 

Given the pace that M&CR have started at, at least the infrastructure should be ready by then. If their freight contract is as lucrative as they would hope, they can keep pushing. Imagine a gala with destinations on four different branches, and Leekbrook Junction as "Preservation Central". You'd need a grandstand like at Shildon!

Still like the idea of a GCR mega-gala through, especially if it gets unified. You could mix in several LM and BR passenger types, a B1, a Hall, and a Bulleid, and it would be historically completely authentic for the early 60s. And that's before you even think about the freight and the locals.

Now been an TL/LU worker myself, its is something that i would love to see happen. bit of news on LT stock......Q-stock is in TMU at acton and does seam to progressing well. Sarah siddons entered transplants workshop at Ruislip. and has been lifted to remove springs for overhaul..... i will start a thread and upload pics.

 

5322, 7325, 9017, 3205, Manor, 2x Small Prairies plus Ivatt 2 and maybe a 75000 joining 7822 at Llangollen. Also include 6430, 7754 and 80072 as they fit in with the Cambrian theme nicely. Maybe get 1638 from KESR to return to an area she once worked in as well. Be awfully nice seeing them all go up Berwyn bank.

 

That wasnt the line up for SSS3 you just announced was it ?

 

i would love to see king edward1 & king edward 2 on the seven valley gala next year or both of them down on the westsomerset gala plus 5029 now that would be a crowed puller ;

How about Superpower on the Welsh Highland with Brecon Mountains Baldwin Pacific, with NG15, NGG16's, ALCo Mountaineer, Lyd, Russell and and Rhydol tank.

 

It's got to be an LSWR gala for me! M7, O2, T9 and at least one Beattie would be possible today. I'd love to see S15 506 (the only surviving Urie S15 IIRC) and the Adams Radial 4-4-2T joining in, and the BR(S) push-pull set proposed by the Swanage Rly, but it's much harder to predict when they'll be ready ;-) Invite the T3, M7 and LSWR carriage from NRM for static display. Venue? Swanage for preference, else MHR or Bluebell. LSW175 in 2013??

499 is also a Urie S15. Been in bits so long no one remembers, and anyway it has not yet run in preservation. One day maybe.

Agree with the rest, though I think the MHR has more scope to run an interesting service. LSWR gala would be brilliant.

 

I think the Mid Hants are having plans for 499 to be overhaled while 506 is in service. I saw it in one of the magazines but not sure of its accuracy. Depending on when 828 is finished that could be 3 in traffic

 

As this thread has petered out (and was always rather Southern-biased) I thought I'd revive it with a suggestion that is just about achievable!

It would be an all-LNER event on the NYMR - 4472, 60007, 60019, and 60163 on the passenger services on NYMR itself, 61264, 61994 and 62005 on the Esk valley, 60023 as Pickering pilot, 63395 on the freight and passengers on the NYMR, 246 on a Pickering-Levisham shuttle and 68088 as Pickering pilot. Spring gala 2012perhaps?

 

If only! Don't know what's going on with SSS3 at present, though I'm sure you'll all be let known in due course.

 

Haven't they tried that a few times? Never quite worked out... [Insert tongue in cheek comment about the reliability of LNER locos :lol:]. Also, an A4 as station pilot seems a bit excessive!

 

If 60023 still existed I wouldn't care if it was station pilot! 69023 is more than up to the job, however.

All-LNER galas have been attempted on the NYMR before, but there are so few available that it is difficult to get them all together at once. However, the line up I've suggested ought to be feasible as all apart from the D49 would be either newly in ticket or well short of expiry. in late 2011/early 2012, and several are already on the NYMR. Perhaps the B12 could substitute for the D49.

 

My wish list, or rather my wish, is that the railways would have galas that are relevant to them and not import locos that have no place on the line in question. A hopeless case of course!
