I’ve been looking on the Mid Hants Railway web site today and I see the wagon group from Medstead & FourMarks have put another update on their web page. Looking at their web page the BR brake van is more or less complete. Can’t be to long before this brake van enters traffic. I also see the group have started work on a pipe wagon. Does anyone know how many of these wagons still exist because I can’t remember see any other examples on any other preserved lines?

    Thanks

The MHR are doing a fine job on the wagon fleet and I enjoy Chris' emails on progress.
There's still a lot of the BR built 'Pipes' about. Notable is 484199 as this is the only survivor of a batch of 50 to this lot and out of number sequence to the rest. 740606 is also the only Cambrian built survivor.

Erm, I hate to say this Steve and Lee, but it is a "Tube" wagon.

So could the question be asked again of just how many "Tube wagons are preserved?

    Best regards
    Chris

Ahh, should have checked it was a 'pipe' Lee was referring to!
The 'tubes' do have several pre nat examples surviving. Not included below are a few GWR open C's as most of these were not classed as Tubes although many were used for this purpose. I'll start with a few coach bodies with tube under frames.

B733421 is not at the G/WR. Possibly a misidentification of B733021?

    I've now removed this Phil.
The two entries on VCT are both photo's from yourself and on closer inspection are the same wagon. I'll remove '421' from the VCT as well.
    Cheers

There will be this week Lee as you are putting in the new floor to the Tube and hanging the doors on the SECR PMV.

Once these are complete there will be much rapid progress as much work has been carried out behind the scenes and under cover due to the recent rain we have had.

    watch this space.

    Regards

I popped in to M&4M this weekend and had a look around the Wagons. Looking at the PMV its coming on at a rapid pace. There are also A few new members at Medstead & Four Marks. There must be over twenty members of the M&4M wagon group now? Maybe Chris (Coal Wagon) could put an update on this thread about what is happening.

Ps Great to see the Wagon group got around of applause at the AGM

Actually Lee there are 25 of us , but yes the wagon group is growing in numbers.

PMV s1995 is part of a batch ordered by the the South East and Chatham Railway before the Grouping , however it was not built until 1924 ?, (I think), by the Southern Railway. Withdrawn into departmental service in 1949, it came to the fledgling Mid-Hants in the mid 1970,s with two sets of the double doors boarded up, partitions down the middle , windows cut into the ends and a rotten floor. I understand that very little was done to it before we got hold of it 2 years ago where we stripped to to the bare frames ,(apart from the roof which was sound). Some framework repairs were done before new doors, floor and cladding were installed to original spec apart from the Southern Railway door ironmongery which was salvaged from our friends on the IOW Steam Railway. Not only will it run in the service trains from time to time but we also intend to turn this into an Exhibition Van.

Other projects ongoing are a Tube wagon halfway though the restoration and a 4 wheel van that we are converting into a meat van painted white.

Future projects entail the two S R Brake vans having the interiors re-furbished,( a nice winter job), and a shoc open, (almost a basket case) though we are on the lookout for a Cattle Wagon and a Queen Mary if someone has one to sell though with the former we might built one from scratch on an extended under frame.

    Kind regards
    Chris:

Actually we have restored two in the last 18 months.

Drawings I cannot help you with though the usual items that go are the doors and the roof, so what advice can I offer you?

    Regards
    Chris

45379 Goods and Crane Charter 13th Nov 2010.

I have added a few shots from the excellent(apart from the weather) Matt and Warwick run charter with 45379.
Great work by the crews concerned ,The Goods train with all the avaliable wagons apart from the Yellow Presflow (requested NOT to be included).Well done guys the pall vans and new wagons looked a treat.
Later in the day we used the Bosses pride and joy the Ex Exmouth Jct 45 tone steam crane . That does sterling work all over the line when needed.
So please have a look at the pictures and if your interested heres the link to that days efforts. Посмотреть вложение 1951 Посмотреть вложение 1952 Посмотреть вложение 1953 Посмотреть вложение 1954 Посмотреть вложение 1955

ah right not to worry then. sorry not been in touch for ages, forgotten i'd made this post. just wondering what sort of costs you'd had and where problem areas were. ours is mainly on four corners of the roof with some bodyside wear.
