Nigh on eighteen years ago i became acquainted with Lindsay The 0-6-0ST formerly of the Wigan Coal & iron company. Whilst she was running at what was then Steam town Carnforth, Now of course the site is a closed industrial Depot with No public access and It appears Lindsay Has been forgotten About,
    Now to my questions
    Does anyone Know the following?
    Who owns this wonderful machine,
and what is her current state.

I will say that Lindsay is the engine that started me off In steam and then Naturally progressed into preservation. so hence my interest in something of a old friend
    Best regards.

Red Rose group used to own the little avonside that was in bits at Astley Green Colliery and is now at Foxfield.... oh erm that will be my user name then! Not sure if they had anything to do with Lindsay.

I remember seeing it at work in the 1980s whilst at Carnforth and it appeared to be quite capable. It would, perhaps, be rather interesting to see it at Foxfield alongside Haydock C 'Bellerophon' which I happen to believe would be a better place for it. Just a personal point of view.

I don't think It is the red rose group as i have a few friends involved there. one point to discuss though as the WC&I had some running powers over the mainline where did they run to i have a suspicion that Lindsay never really left Lancashire in her working life nor in preservation .

So far as I'm aware, it's still at carnforth - a lovely vintage little engine!

Actually now I think back it wasn't the Red Rose group that owned 1563, she just happened to be on their site at Astley. Not sure if they have ever owned a steam railway loco but I believe they have a fine collection of narrow gauge diesels, mainly ex coal board.

    A bit more info.

Lindsay is (or was) owned by the Lindsay Loco Trust. They rescued it from a Preston scrapyard in 1976 and restored it. It came to Carnforth in 1981. It did steam at Steamtown, where it was fitted with a vacuum brake so that it could work passenger trains.

I do not know whether the loco has changed hands, or whether the Trust is still active.

The industrial steam locos that remain at Steamtown are very reclusive, and were not on display at the 2008 open weekend. But a couple have become visible today for the first time: Furness Rly 25, and a dismantled Peckett 0-4-0T which i think is Caliban. Also visible is GWR royal saloon 9007, and possibly 9006 though it is under a tarpaulin. Both carriages are part of the national railway collection. I have added photos here:

They are 9006 and 9007, though only 9007 is now part of the collection.

thanks Andrew, and Anthony, I've been trying to read the little notice on that carriage but even with 34x zoom its not possible, was standing at that spot discussing what it was with another enthusiast, is Furness Rly 25 an 0-6-0, I thought it was FR18 which used to stand on a short piece of track in the yard near the turntable a number of years ago. the boiler in your photo I was told is from an FR loco. the newly painted BR lined tender behind it with the cycling lion logo is reputed to be 44932's, I do miss Sunday afternoon rides behind Lindsay, it made a great noise.

As far as I know it is privately owned, and does not belng to WCRC. It has been at Steamtown for overhaul since at least 2008. It was working on the Embsay line in 2006:

    Thanks for confirming their identities.

Please can you say why they are at Steamtown, and who now owns 9006?

Separately, NRM Pullman car Emerald came to Steamtown in 2006 with 47798 but seems to have dropped off the radar. Please can you provide an update? Some pix of the arrival at Carnforth start here:

My (possibly unreliable) memory recalls seeing an advert in Railway Magazine offering the loco for sale shortly after restoration was completed but before it moved to Steamtown.

They are still both owned by the NRM, but only 9007 is currently part of the collection. Futures are under discussion.
I also know the owner of the Austerity, he hopes to have it in steam in the next 12 months I believe.
