Hi Matt. I'm planning to go to the Sandy Lane crossing at Yarnton, then Reading Station, then hop on a 125 to Paddington, then possibly out to Southall Station and back to Paddington to see her leave at 16.20.

    I'll look out for you!

I was the one on crutches at the end of the Up Relief platform. I would usually be helping at the C&WR, but my broken ankle prevents me at the moment, so instead I chased it up to Paddington and saw her sat in platform 1 looking very much at home and the centre of attention. At work now so missed the return run unfortunately. Looking forward to seeing the photos of the pannier at Moor Street.

First time i have seen 5043, and all i can say is wow, she is a stonker, easily my fav of the year, hope to actually get a run out of it next year, but well done to all that are involved in keeping her in top notch condition, she is a tribute to all your hard work, so thank you for allowing me to get these shots, and also to the driver and fireman for putting on a fine display!

    cheers
    Matt

Fantastic pictures Matt, can't believe you've never seen her before!

As planned, I zoomed off to Yarnton (got really muddy in the lineside field, not planned!) then chased the train to Reading, Paddington and Southall, then all the way back again. Brilliant day, got some nice video footage which is going through processing now.

Many many thanks to David1984 (and anyone else who was doing it) for the text updates from the train, that was brilliant, it's so nice to know what is going on!

Hope to have my video up by tomorrow morning.

Nice pictures. You managed to see 3 different trips. I went to see 1 which failed and was then cancelled.

I'll get a video up tomorrow too. Managed to see the train several times today.

First the stock arriving at Moor St and then the departure. http://campainr.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoid=109506339

Then overtook her to see her flying through Lapworth. http://campainr.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoid=109506338

Here is an evening shot of her at Warwick Parkway before she hammered up Hatton bank. http://campainr.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoid=109506342

And finally simmering at the bufferstops at Moor St again. http://campainr.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoid=109506340 and http://campainr.webs.com/apps/photos/photo?photoid=109506341

    Not a bad day really!:first:

There was some disruption to services at Reading tonight due to signalling problems near Didcot. The down relief platform 8 was absolutely packed with passengers for a delayed service to Manchester and then, in the distance, came the magical sound of a GWR whistle on the northern approach to Reading and to the amazement of Jo Public, 5043 appeared and accelerated away through the station with a further short blast on the whistle. For several minutes the topic of conversation was the steam train with some people never having seen one in their lives before. One chap was amazed to learn that real coal was being used on the loco. For me, this is the magic of steam. A busy mainline station and the unsuspecting traveller completely gobsmacked by the sudden sight of a steam train. If only I could bottle the wonderful expressions on the faces of those travellerse, both young and old. Those photos alone would be worth their weight in gold!

    Mainline Steam for ever!

    Nick

Not a classic (taken on my phone), but this video gives a good impression of how well she was going at Cholsey - http://twitvid.com/HVARC
