As the year draws to a close I thought it would be nice to see what is the forums Narrow Gauge moment of the year. Lets get those nominations in now and I will run a poll with the shortlisted ones!
So which moment do you think should be moment of the year and why. I will reveal mine later!

Its got to be either Lyd's Launch or connecting Porthmadog and Caernarfon

Other Than Me Getting To Drive Taliesin At KTW 2010 ;) It Would Have to Be The WHR Caernarfon to Porthmadog for me

I suspect it will be Lyd on the L&B or WHR related!

However, I will nominate the Moseley Railway Trust for opening the Apedale Valley Railway public passenger trains, twinning with the Frankfurter Feldbahn Museum (Frankfurt, Germany) & launching a re-built ex-WHR 1923 Toastrack Carriage at the September Gala this year.
All completed & operated by volunteers wthin an approx 4 year period from a vacant/derelict site; including the minor headache of re-locating & housing over 60 locos + materials in the process!

How about the SKLR running trains again in October? Although I am a volunteer on the railway, I thought that there was a very good chance that it wouldn't survive - certainly not in it's original form. Well done to all those who negotiated the survival of the railway!

I'll back Nigel up. Not only did the SKLR run the trains in October but they had an enormous amount of work to do before trains could run and passengers safely got on the trains at Milton and looked after at Kemsley. I am most grateful to them for seeking help from others as I have had a number of enjoyable days working on a variety of tasks at the line since late summer. What a nice bunch they are!

SKLR I missed hearing the news but fantastic to hear and definitely a highlight of the year.

I would be a tad biased on anything Lyd, WHR related... For me it may well be the following days train on the Sunday when Lyd and Tal double headed to Rhyd Ddu from Porthmadog with a very appropriate station pilot (Upnor Castle) for the Platelayers' Special.

Lyd and Tal on the platelayers' special - the first FR train to run up to Rhyd Ddu - but the real highlight was Upnor hauling the whole lot back into Harbour. That and cleaning the clag from Tal off the windows of the obs car before the return journey.

Personal highlight: being on the footplate for Lyd's first run to Blaenau Ffestiniog. Magical.

Personal highlight of the year was a trip on Lyd's footplate on the L&B - the smiles on the faces of Messrs Evans and Lewin said it all.

Boston Lodge's completion of the replica W&L vintage train is a unsung highlight,

But I have to agree that the S&K re-opening was the best moment of the year IMHO.

The change in management here at the WHHR!

Interesting to note how much shaking down Chevellier appears to need apart from the overheating axlebox issues. She seems to make heavy weather of the three Pickerings compared with the supremely lively (but much smaller) ex SLR "85" heading four four wheelers on the same stretch of line.

Well, after the vacuum pipe was put back on – "Came off in me 'and guv..." :) And yes, that example of priming was seriously impressive...

Yup, my trip on a Ffestiniog gravity train rivalled the Platelayer's trip for personal moment of the year, again organised by Andrew T - lordy, I did send him a Christmas card didn't I?

However my personal highlight of the year was passing out as a fireman on the Welshpool & Llanfair...

    Merry Christmas one and all
