Have to take exception at it being in the middle of nowhere! - Fort Steele is somewhere over here -Lol , good to hear its going back to the Uk , seemed out of place here in Canada.
Although if the folks in Beamish want a project, they could overhaul the 2-10-4 Selkirk in Calgary, now that would get attention over here !!
    cheers from Canada

I was under no illusion it was near anywhere so it would have been a good few days of travelling from Toronto (where I'm going next year). I understand she was exported to Canada and became their only working engine for a number of years when they opened. Perhaps Boness would be a better choice as their network isn't as taxing and the big saloon is going on display there.

Bo'ness might be a better choice, but they're not paying for it, Beamish are! I don't think it's going to lead a testing life at Beamish though.

Would Dunrobin take the title as the oldest boiler/locomotive (as posted elsewhere?).

    Regards,

Yeah it would be great to see it back home for a visit. A trip to Embsay would be good as they have a vintage set there IIRC?

They do indeed. I'm getting a hankering to rejoin the Strathspey and try get a hold of some people that 4 and 6 wheelers, if these people exist.

Saw this mentioned in the latest SR. Can anyone tell me if with the 3(?) year loan of 68088 and the acquiring of Dunrobin, they are considered secure for motive power for the forseeable future and have shelved the project to build their own Y8 announced a few years ago? Don't blame them if they have, since I'm sure both will prove useful engines.

Speaking of locos shipped to North America, does anybody know the current whereabouts of the two ex-Carnforth Bassett Lowke atlantics? UKLocos is drawing a blank.

From Miniature Railway World Forum - The four Steamtown loco were at the Golden Gate Railroad Museum being restored. ROYAL ANCHOR was a runner and new boilers built for the steamers. Alas they had to vacate their site in 8/2005 and the stock was returned to Francis Ford Coppola

Dunrobin is going to go to Bridgnorth for a full assessment of its condition.

That is some length of train. I got caught at a level crossing once outside Montreal and it look almost 20 minutes for the train to go slowly past. All the locals behind me turned around as they knew the time these things take.
