Nobody has started on India and Pakistan yet, exports to which Bagnall and Kerr Stuart seemed to corner the market for a time, particularly on the narrow gauge.

Ive got pictures of a very faded Blue/Gray Mark 2 in St Louis back in 2002, had been there some years, dont know the number or history of how it got there.
60008 has 2 Gresley coaches with it in Wisconsin.

mmmm dare I say Manning Wardle "Lew" in Brazil?

Also http://www.australiansteam.com/nswind/jab5.jpg such a shame that Beyer Peacock 0-6-4T , Mersey Railway no. 1 'The Major' , Built 1885 . Now preserved but not restored, in Australia. looks like such a bad way.

I wouldnt mind seeing this beast imported and restored. Surposed to be a strong tank engine

The Australian Government has very strict laws preventing the export of 'heritage' artefacts.

A bit o/t sorry, but Mersey Railway 'Cecil Raikes' is already in Liverpool, so why don't they just restore that, rather than import another!

If we are talking rolling stock as well, there are around 100 Mk II carriages in New Zealand, re-gauged to 3'6" and used for both commuter and some services behind mainline steam.

Assuming that the Southern tank was the M7, the M7 and the Schools are no longer "abroad" but the A4 has yet to come home!

T'would be nice to get 60008 back, and have her running as "Golden Shuttle" in full LNER regalia.
(But I'm sure this topic must have been done to death.)

I read that there were a load of ROD 2-8-0s exported to China, anybody know what happened to them? Also some when to the middle east. Surely theres a chance some have servived considering quite alot of 8Fs have from the same region.

I would be amazed if any survive in China... as soon as anything there stops working it's melted down.

RODs in China were probably exported back to the UK as components of VCR's in the 1980's and will probably come back again as IPads again in the next few years.

There were two big Bagnall standard gauge 0-8-0T Locos at Karabuk Steel works in Turkey - reputed to have the same TE as a GWR Hall and built to British Loading gauge. There were still in existance a few years back (maybe 2004 last reporting). Wonder whether they are still about- would be perfectly happy charging up the bank a Foxfield with a full rake of hoppers in tow.

A few Hawthorn Leslie or RSH Saddle tanks similar to those which worked at Corby were also resident at Karabuk for sometime as well - there are rumours they may have been scrapped, but nothing confirmed.

    Cheers,

    Stephen

With the price of scrap steel what it is, I'd expect that many survivors have been scrapped in the last couple of years. Look whats happening to so called preserved South African locos!

Never heard anything about them back in the 80's, I expect that they probably dissapeared many years before that. I just wondered if anybody knew when they were scrapped....

46 ROD 2-8-0s were exported to China during the years 1925-28. Because of the events in China in the 1930s what became of these locos is anyone's guess. However it is thought that a few lasted into the late 1940s.
Information is from J.W.P. Rowledge's book "Heavy Goods Engines of the War Department Vol. 1 ROD 2-8-0s".
