Good news! But I was really wondering if any other railway has SECR coaches. I know the KESR uses a Birdcage brake in its breakdown train, and the KWVR has one coach; how many others are there and does the Bluebell intend to hire them in?

The Bluebell has, in addition to the 'Hundred Seaters' at least two other SECR coaches, can anyone offer advice on their progress?

    Regards

So, if the Bluebell wants to splash out it could really be a SECR gala then!

As much as hiring in coaching stock from the IOWR would be fantastic, all the coaching stock is Air-Braked and could only run with either 672 (Which would have been withdrawn by November) or B473 which doesn't keep to the theme much...Stock from the KESR is a possibilty! During the filming of Wind in the Willows some vintage coaches were hired from the KESR and ran at the Bluebell so stranger things have happend!!!

The KESR birdcage is a service vehicle and is regularly used as part of the vintage set, although it has been known to appear with the crane on gala days for photographic purposes.

According to the Bluebell's Facebook Group, the O1 could be going into the works for overhaul in November to hopefully be ready to steam again in 2013.

It's still funding dependent! The next set of tip trains will run for 4 weeks, but that still leaves probably 17 - 18 weeks to go, at £125k per week (unless even more efficiencies can be found in how the waste is handled). The funding gap was stated as £2.2m in the last Bluebell News; no doubt more has been raised since then, but that's still a lot of wonga to find if you want to see trains running into EG any time soon. So chequebooks out, chaps! It's basically £25 per ton, £20 if you donate in a way where the Bluebell trust can reclaim the gift aid. Good on the Bluebell for training up their volunteers and taking over the site management from costly contractors. Whilst I'm sure it will be a big burden for volunteers (late nights & early mornings etc) if the system works it'll be great to see them stretching every £ as far as it can possibly go...

Volunteers has nothing to do with it I am led to believe.

Apart from one volunteer Director I understand that everything else at the tip is contracted out.

Perhaps someone in the know will tell us what is going on , or will this be another chinese whisper?

    Er... from the Bluebell website:

Also, the overall site management is being done by the railway rather than contracted out to Land & Water. Both of these changes are as a result of experience gained at the first Waste by Rail trial.

    Unless you know different?
