I can only agree. Great progress - and great news for the preservation of the line - can't wait to see a finished version!

It doesn't look like you'll have to wait long but I'm all ears if anyone knows of tablet machines and all the gubbins that go into a box. We've got the frame and levers sorted (16 lever) but those nice shiny items that'll finish it off wont come cheap. Although we've got irons in fires it doesn't help to ask of the railway heritage community.

More piccies on Wednesday when I next visit.
    All the best,

    Ralph

As promised, please find a couple more piccies from today's visit. I haven't included pics of the frame and levers in bits all being painted and handles polished, but that will be in soon. I think that the big windows start to go in this week and maybe a few slates will apear on the roof if the rain & wind will hold off for a few days more.
    All the best,

    Ralph

hi ralph, maindrainage here, when are you getting more track and as i have mentioned before 2013 is coming fast and it is an event you cannot afford to miss. has an appeal be launched to find volunteers yet, just to get the signalbox fitted out you could do with an ex-br s&t engineer if nothing else just for guidance. please can you list site access days and times for possible volunteers.

keep the pic's coming and keep up the good work.

    Maindrainage,
good point and thanks for asking. Firstly, anyone out there with knowledge of a possible source for any of the gubbins is most welcome to pm me. The appeal for volunteers is ongoing and a lot of work has been done on publicity in the local area and I believe we get another (albeit small) mention in the latest Heritage Railway. We would welcome expert help with fitting out the box rather than a call for mass of new blood.... that will be handy for laying the track (which arrives at a nearby holding site this weekend) and for restoring the wooden vehicles we have arriving before Easter: an LMS brake van, Southern Region CCT and a wooden framed LNWR box van.
It's a good crack down there now, so yes, more volunteers please.
As for 2013, plans are ongoing but no announcements yet.
    All the best,

    Ralph

The window frames have been made but I don't think they've been fitted yet. The slates are going on steadily with at least half of the roof done. I won't be down there for a few more days yet so no piccies from me for a while unless any of my chums email me some.
Thanks for the interest; exciting times!
    Cheers,

    Ralph

My goodness, if we could all get our act together as quickly as you folks are at Shillingstone we would be able to travel from Bath to Bournemouth behind a "West Country" in 2012! Well done!

Not really signal box related but for the second week in a row two artics fully laden (one with a 60ft trailer) with track (steels only) arrived at Shillingstone. Third and final convoy in a fortnight.
I'll let you know when the LMS brake van and our Mark One arrive... soon. Might be joined by something else as well.
If we're not careful we're going to start looking like a railway! :jaw:

Your 'greed' (interest) is most appreciated! I'll be putting a few more piccies up over the weekend but externally it wont look much different for a while now as it is essentially externally complete: roof finished, window frames in, doors on etc. It just needs the glass, render at the base, full paint and the station signs going up and that will be it.

The main effort now is sorting the beam for building the 16-lever frame, insulating and putting up the tongue & groove panelling inside. Once we've done that we'll sit down with a few chaps who remember the interior of the box (there are no photographs available as far as we can tell) in order to get the details as authentic as possible and then crack on accordingly.

We are slowly amassing all the gubbins - I purchased 2 x Tyler No6 tablet machines this week - such as lever plates, bell pushes, block instruments and all sorts of stuff that I don't understand so that by Easter we are looking pretty much something like.

By the way; the actual structure has cost about £2,600 thus far; how's that for recycling!
    All the best,

    Ralph
