It's called 'waxing lyrical', certainly not cringe worthy.

"Wax Lyrical … talk in a highly enthusiastic and effusive way"… seems about right to me.

Anthony: Is it going on display in "as received" condition, or after a cosmetic wash and brushup?

    Thanks

Thanks both - it is privately owned, so not part of the collection, and it will go display "as received" - which is surprisingly good condition really when you see it close up.

What's the narrative the NRM are going to use for it?

Wartime, export, steam survival into the 1980s, the enthusiasm for steam driving folks to bring locos to the UK after a long working life on the continent etc. It will be displayed coupled to the Warflat carrying a Crusader tank.

Perhaps this NRM-stay would be an opportunity to tell at least in part the story of the LMS men (one of whom was R. Jarvis, of Bulleid-rebuilding fame) who went out with the locos during the war and the amazing work they did? (As told pp.18-19 Issue 145 of Heritage Railway). The bravery and sacrifice of civilians in wartime is often overlooked (with the exception of our withstanding the blitz).

    Isn't it?

Fantastically meaty looking machines with all the Turkish paraphernalia on them!

You got me going for a minute, it has been confirmed by a mod that it was in the 32424 thread by mistake. It must been moved back here before you read it.

I can only see the top half of the loco, but as remarked before, it does look in remarkable condition.....

I suppose storage for many years in a hot dry climate has preserved the "exterior" fabric of these engines, but the serious stuff starts when the eventual restoration gets underway and an assessment of the internal condition takes place, particularly in respect of the firebox.

Maybe however the purchasers have been there, given that they possibly had a choice, and went for the "best" examples?

....Ideal loco for the likes of the NYMR....
