The "Stratford Project" web page on the Vintage Trains website was last updated in March 2009.

A victim of the "credit crunch"?

Possibly, and probably a victim of the endless bureaucracy that such projects attract (as also seen on the Corwen extension thread).
Six years to acquire the land?

I agree that this project might well have suffered as a result of the recession although Stratford Upon Avon is one of the most visited places in the UK. There might be another issue, which links to the problems when dealing with our ever mounting bureaucracy, in that the project has "reached a struggle factor of 7" as my old quality manager used to say!

If Network Rail or some part of the former BR is involved, very likely - it took the St Albans Signal Box Preservation Trust three years plus to negotiate a sensible lease, let alone buying land!

WyvernRail began negotiations in 1992 for access to the Wirksworth branch. It was the year 2000 before volunteers were granted access to start working on it as the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway - 8 years! The line mothballed in 1989 and would have been reasonably easy to reopen in 1992 because vegetation over 3 years would be far less than over 11!

Wrong project David, this is a future Tyseley outpost on land next to the station, not some bizarre Christian railway revivial in the South West.

Thank you for the continued interest.

We have put this project on temporary-hold status. We still have control of the land and we continue to look for the most practical uses for this valuable parcel of land.

We have secured a revised 25 year-lease for our Tyseley Locomotive Works, so the focus for the next 12 months or so is to improve the covered facilities for our mainline stock.

Is it someone getting confused, or was there a suggestion that the the London Bridge roof was being looked at for this site? Does this remain the case, and would it even fit let alone receive planning permission? Seems a trifle large to me...

The arched roof (withouth the wings) at London Bridge was proposed to form the roof of the Stratford Railway Centre, not a roof over Stratford station itself.

This project is not "dead", just "on-hold".
