    34081's boiler is now with Chatham Steam so it won't be too long before we know the extent of the work needed and the cost involved. In the meantime the chassis will be moved under cover and then lifted to enable the wheels to be rolled out from underneath.

    All tubes have been removed and the general "crud" has been removed from the inside of the boiler. Initial thickness testing has revealed thinning of the throat plate. Not entirely unexpected and this area has already been replaced during BR ownership. The affected area will be removed prior to replacement as well as to allow further inspection of the firebox area.
