He could have, but he didn't, and he didn't have to.

I for one am very pleased that we get contributions at all from the people in the industry. Some already have very publicly left this forum for good because of attitudes like that, and as a consequence the forum is less well informed. This is primarily a place for information exchange, not a finishing school. Criticise people's opinions as much as you like, but please cut out the unnecessary sniping just because you personally don't like the way someone chooses to put their words together.

I notice there was no complaint from the person the post was actually addressed to. I think in the end he was probably glad to know the truth.

As for the argument that they win, or lose, customers by their postings, I find it unlikely in the extreme that anyone on here would say, oh I'd have done that tour but I see they're using WCRC and I don't like James Shuttleworth's way of explaining things, so I'll stay at home.

C'mon guys, let's try to lose our reputation as "the dark side" please.

Just to put this in perspective, how would you expect a company representative, ie a shop worker, a cs agent on the phone, a receptionist, doctor, nurse etc. to speak to you? I would expect politeness & civility. I would think if any one of these people treated customers with rudeness or contempt, people would soon complain their managers or higher. When I worked on the buses, any driver who was rude to a passenger was soon complained about, they were trained to be professional even under pressure. We all might be "anoraks" (for want of a better phrase) be still human & expect to be treated as such.

As "8A" said above, other organisations like Tyseley, Rileys & many others are very open with their information with quite regular updates. They are often proud of their achievements & can't wait to let people know often even publishing photos & videos. West Coast/Carnforth seem very different in this respect for some reason. By the way I think I will mention that a certain member on here has taken it upon his self to air "his dirty washing" in public on another forum (the other side) accusing me of upsetting people on here & trying to do the same on there, which of course I wasn't. This was nothing to do with this subject. If he reads this, he will know who he is.

Seriously this is rather pathetic. Some people complain they never get the facts, yet when they do receive facts they complain they were not written in a polite enough tone. FFS so what they weren't provided with a bag of sweets and smile? The information was still factual.

This forum used to be full of information from people in the know. Now its just turning into the Gossip column of Preservation, loosing those with any knowledge and facts along the way. Steve from GWR 's post pretty much sums it up rather well.

As for comparing posters on here to shop workers, JS etc are not selling their products on here. This is a forum for talking on various subjects based around railways, it is not the customer services for WCRC! Are people really going to be put off booking on a WCRC tour just because of one simple post? I seriously doubt it.

I can see both sides of the argument, to be frank I think its six of one, half a dozen of the other. On the one side, if put a little less bluntly, Mr Shuttleworth's comment is very helpful and to the point. On the other hand, I would also argue Mr Buseng is perhaps being a little over sensitive in his appraisal of said comments.

I agree in principle with both sides, but I think one or the other, and perhaps both, have forgot that words written on a computer screen do not necessarily portray well the mood in which they were written. In short, it's a misunderstanding that has escalated on both sides, unnecessarily, frankly.

Perhaps they could both agree to disagree and the thread could move back to the subject of 34067?

Totally agree with you Lil Bear, you hit the nail right on the head. I think this forum has gone barmy recently, must be the recession or something. Now Tangmere...

There is a very simple solution that can keep everyone here happy. Those of you who don't like James' contributions, click his name against one of his posts, choose "View Profile", and then click on "Add to Ignore List".

Then everyone can be happy. For you, it will be just as if you've persuaded him to leave, and your sensibilities will no longer be offended since you won't see his future posts. For the rest of us, we'll still be able to benefit from his contributions. Best of both worlds. Please do it.

On topic, Tangmere, please come back. You may be ugly, but we miss you.

Damn right, spot on. Carnforth is locked down tight, they are a business and they don't discuss their business on an internet forum. THAT IS THEIR RIGHT. James, when he has a minute, occasionally gives little snippets of FACTUAL information and here we have some sad people complaining he wasn't POLITE enough. Hells teeth, grow up. :rolleyes1: I'll be surprised to see James say anything else.

I thought they'd been banned here.
