If Peak Rail wanted another loco I don't think repatriating clapped out dismantled wrecks from America would be top of the list.

Maybe not as a whole loco, but considering they have 7597 mid way through an overhaul... Spare parts don't grow on trees!

Following up on yesterdays post..I have a bit more information.

their was 3 coaches exported to the US. All BR Maroon (they never made it to BR Blue), 1 BSK and 2 TSO.

Once the Boyne City failed, two coaches were sold privately to a railway owner in Detroit.
1 coach went to Tennessee with No2. Both were stored under cover from the early 1980s until 2000 when they both were sold and moved, first to Indiana, before the restoration ended and it was moved to the yard in Louisville.
The Mark 1's whereabouts is not clear, but it's not with the locomotive any longer. (Though I mentioned yesterday that I saw an ex BR coach in St Louis years ago.. I don't know which one it was, if it even was one of these).

Of historical note, speaking with someone "who was there" in the 1970s at Helmshore, Meaford no1 and Mark 1 TSO NE 4350 were speculatively bought with possibility of a follow on sale to Boyne City which never materialised. As a result NE4350 became the ELR's first coach at the Bury Transport Museum, and certainly one of the first preserved BR Mark 1 coaches in the UK, never having made it to BR Blue either, both went on to be part of the reopening train at the ELR in 1987, that consisted (in numeric order) of 1832,4350,4642,4647,4762 and 9356, which was later strengthened by Christmas with the addition of Blood and Custard coach 25385.

As an aside there are 2 LNER Gresley Teak coaches in Green Bay Wisconsin, with the A4 4-6-2 60008, the Mark ones obviously not to be confused with these.

I seem to recall that there was a cover picture on the Railway Magazine of the loco and the three Mk 1s running on the Boyne City RR, not long after they went there, but I don't have the issue any more.

For those interested in the history of Mark 1 coaches.

Two were sold in 1976/7 to the Detroit & Mackinaw Railroad, when the line went out of business in 1992 they were passed to the musuem at Standish Depot.
One coach went with Meaford No 2, to Tennessee, but it's whereabouts is unknown.

Those on display at the Standish Depot Musuem, in Standish, MI, near Sagninaw, MI not too far from Detroit are in very good (if not original) condition.

There are quite good google street view pictures of the coaches on display, at google maps

the address is 188 Main Street, Standish, MI 48658

    at maps.google.com enter: 43.9828544, -83.9597977

Zoom in to main street and head up the street to approx 188 N. Main Street.(and scroll up the page towards W. Beaver St, and look towards the station building, there very clearly visible).

The station website advertises them as "reminiscent of Harry Potter"

    http://www.us23heritageroute.org/culturehistory.asp?ait=av&aid=756

(An enterprising enthusiast could quite well visit these coaches, 60008 Dwight D Eisenhower + 2 LNER Coaches, and 60010 Dominion of Canada and LBSC terrier Waddon all in the same week).

Not that I'm advocating it, but there must be a very good market in the States for an operational 'Thomas' lookalike.

A post was added to that RYPN thread yesterday afternoon that shows the finished article........including an interpretation of a late BR crest.
It all may look a bit OTT, even if they have (sort of) followed the Boyne City RR colour scheme, but certainly looks smart!

I hope they never try to move it like that, it appears to have a link from the crosshead to the cylinder drains. Something is going to bend!
