Probably heresy, but given Bulleid wasn't about by the time the pacifics came to be rebuilt, why not just call them "Jackson" Pacifics and the originals "Bulleid" Pacifics? Much simpler and explains away the differences without arguing over the semantics of rebuilt/unrebuilt/not rebuilt/etc!

Or we could just carry on as before...!

Werent they actually known as 'Flat Tops' in service? I seem to remember a story in Steam Railway along those lines, with Spamcan being used less often if at all before preservation.

...or i might be imagining it!

Flat Tops was certainly used when they were in service but with all nicknames they seem to vary from area to area.

Unrebuilt will work (for most people, that is) until the point that someone goes through with this fantasy of "un-rebuilding" a Merchant Navy.

Then we will indeed have a semantic problem...... de-rebuilt anyone?.......

Indeed, flat tops was used, but my grandfather (ex Ramsgate Driver - Ted Cuckney) refered to them as Spams.

You'd think so, wouldn't you? I expect the first we'll know is when "noelist" spots her backing down onto a rake of coaches early one morning ;-)

According to the RTC website, updated today, the outward routing is now via the Hope Valley and the CLC, which is also a first, not via Copy Pit. The return route is unclear but the wording of the revised itinerary suggests it is going back back the same way it came, there is no mention of a different route.
