WSR 2011 Spring Gala

Тема в разделе 'Galas and Events', создана пользователем The_Mighty_Kings, 11 дек 2010.

Fair comment. I guess it's a balance between spend and revenue these days :-(

I can't see the C&W painting any coaches other colours until they've used up that job lot of cream/brown...

As for the Auto, I don't have the details just yet. Sorry. But I think you'll like the diagrams :)

  1. The four long term hire maroon coaches coupled to the four QB coaches would make an eight coach maroon rake. This would work for photo charters but, sadly, not during galas as the QB rake is no longer used at these events.

It also needs to be remembered that it can be cold during the SSG, so anything used needs to have some form of heating. The last time a maroon rake was hired (I think it was the last time) the vehicle which provides the ETH for the rake was supposed to have been hired but wasn't delivered, so that rake was unheated throughout the entire gala. There have also been occasions when non-steam heated carriages have been attached to the end of standard WSR rakes, so the steam-heated carriages can only get heated going one way.

How high are the chances of the Brit turning up? I'll still go to use up my lineside pass but I'd still like to know. By the way, I've only started going to galas at the WSR regularly recently, as I live 200 miles away but I've now done 3 steam and 1 diesel and I love it! What a great line!

Will 3850 be taking part? The GCR driving experience days for the 2-8-0 have been moved to earlier in March and it is due back at the WSR in late March, but will it make the SSG or miss it by days? (that would be a real p*** take!)

3850 guys said at the start of this thread she would not have returned in time.

  7. No 3850 has never figured in the list of locos for this Gala.

However, a further SR loco may be booked for the Gala (but no promises).

And for those coming by mainline trains, don't forget the line between Exeter and Taunton is closed for engineering works over both weekends of the WSR's SSG. This closure scuppered the hoped-for diesel shuttles between Taunton and Bishops Lydeard. But it has freed up the Norton section over the two Gala weekends (it is in use by HOBCs during the week) which will allow the Auto train to run SO and SuO from Bishops Lydeard to Norton Fitzwarren. No timing details yet available...

Even with the 'no promises' caveat, that sounds nice! I suppose the 'Greyhound' could bite 'U' on the ankle; or it could be flying from Manston or Tangmere, circling over Eddystone before dashing down to Wadebridge to buy some 'E4' food colouring... As you can tell, I'm absolutely clueless as to what the loco could be if it comes to fruition...

Why did you quote my comment? I said she wouldn't be appearing, as previously stated earlier in the thread.

The 'Greyhound' (T9 No 30120) has absolutely no chance of appearing at the WSR Spring Gala.......this year or next. Except for any request from the NRM (as the owner) for the loco to appear at York or Shildon, the Bodmin & Wenford - who paid for No 30120's recent overhaul - has agreed with the NRM that, in return for its large investment in funding the overhaul, Bodmin will be the only place to see the T9 in action until at least the autumn of 2012.

  11. Sorry. I picked the wrong message to quote.

I quite enjoy looking at gradient profiles, and very few people outside of the hobby/industry seem to realise that railways have to do their share of hill-climbing. Surprised at the extent of the level running at the Minhead end of the line, though.

If I could wish for three things this is them:
    - to be able to go to this gala (I can't because I'm busy)
    - That all railways had a gradient profile somewhere on their website
-That GWSR's landslip appeal would reach its target by the end of this week. (you can help this one to come true soon by clicking here)

Just had an exellent 'first turn of the year' on Earlstoke on Sunday. If all the visiting loco's are as good , the gala will be a good'un!

Just seen 2807 has been added to the guest list, and that 6430 + W167 are to operate on the Wednesday as well.
