Vintage Trains - 'The Coronation Express' - Saturday 2nd April 2011

The prospect of double headed 'Halls' from Tyseley to Didcot sounds good. Does anyone know anything else about the train, timings or any good photo or video locations to watch the train from.

Sapperton Bank is definitely a favourite spot for this route, just go to YouTube and search for "Sapperton steam" to see what it's like.

The train should be working hard as it departs from Swindon. It's not the prettiest location, but I got a nice clip of 5029 and 6024 at the footbridge near Copse Avenue to the east of the station: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08nMTfgE3x8

There are several locations on the approach to Didcot, though the train will be slowing down there. On the departure, there's a nice spot up near the A34 just to the east, where I caught Lizzie last year: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqrhlnkY1Ns (after one minute)

 

If you can get a spot at Frampton Mansell crossing, you can see them coming over the viaduct as long as there aren't too many trees in the way.

There is about 1 mile before Chalford where the A419? Runs alongside the tracks at the same level just as the engines really start to climb.

Anywhere in the Golden Valley is pretty amazing.
