Well that certainly answers the Scotsmans Livery poll ! I for one didnt see that coming - she will look stunning & without deflectors too!

No wonder Mr Coullis was keeping quiet.

Now all I have to do is find the pennies for a trip to York.............mmmmmm

    A unique opportunity, well exploited.

Increasingly we're seeing engines carrying liveries at the beginning or end of their tickets that are not their most popular, such as 6233, (and 6229 appearing as an LMS Black 'Semi', even if static), and it's a great idea. Perhaps something can be arranged toward the end of its ticket, too - BR Blue, or Green?

Not having smoke deflectors is the icing on the cake :)

Excellent decision, IMHO. Exploits a period where running in/alterations etc may be made which could potentially damage paintwork, while also demonstrating a lesser known part of railway history and (arguably) fulfilling a further part of the NRM's core objectives. Well done.

Although I'm now waiting for the cries of the BR brigade that wartime black isn't how people see FS, so BR should be given a try as well...I can just picture the letters pages!

Interesting livery, good to see that it's something different. The initial lack of smoke deflectors is interesting though.

Something tells me that the lineside is going to be rather busy.

Question is - just how long she will be in this guise - one month or two?

It would also be nice if the commissioning runs could bring her down south giving more people the chance to see her.

It's a shame that she wont be carrying the livery in October as that would've made the planned line at Barrow Hill even more interesting A1 - Brunswick, A2 Apple Green, A3 Wartime Black, A4 Express Blue, what a sight for sore eyes that would be.

    One question

the wheels are currently beautifully turned out in apple green . These look like they are freshly repainted ? SO are they now going black ? or will she run in black with apple green wheels ?

Good point but a simple job in Photoshop nonetheless.

Well done to the NRM for coming up with something different.
I'll also add my plea about her commissioning runs....please send her to the West Midlands on one of them. We can't all find the time to travel to York or to places in the North to see her running like this.

True but rather defeats the purpose of having her black in the first place. I am very much looking forward to seeing this livery variation.

Well that sidelines the "LNER livery not appropriate for double chimney and German-style smoke deflectors" debate, doesn't it!

Best idea I've heard of in years, so when it breaks down hopefully inside a tunnel no one will be able to find it and no one will be asking the public to dig deep into their pockets to repair it AGAIN!What sums up this engine:- over worked, over priced, over stated and over it's promised return to steam date.

Can never understand why people can develop such a strong dislike for an individual loco. We all have our favourites but in the end it's steam, be it pre grouping, Big Four, BR, industrial or overseas or. GWR may be well down my list of favourites but give me a King over a Class 66 any day.
