Churnet Valley Railway Shareholders Weekend - Now open to public

Over the weekend of February 26th & 27th, Churnet Valley Railway will be hosting a shareholders weekend with special services on the recently opened MCR Cauldon Lowe line.

Due to the quick take up of tickets, it has been decided to open the event to the general public.

There will be 3 trains a day from Kingsley & Froghall to Cauldon Lowe with tickets priced at £15. There is no requirement to book - just turn up on the day at K&F.

 

Presuming these are steam hauled, does that make this 5199's first public trip up the Cauldon line?

I can think of a few people on here who would like the sound of that

 

Anyone know what load it is going to be, as i have been told load 9 for the weekend?
& is it 5199 & 33021 hauling the train?

Certainly will be 5199 first public services up Cauldon. The first ever GWR loco from what I know too. Don't think its 9 though, more 6.

the tickets for the public DO need to be pre-booked by telephone. Does anyone know whether the £15 is for one return journey or is it a day 'rover' - I would suspect the former!

In therory it could be anything up to 11 coaches as that is what we have available.

I would guess that it will be at least 8 coaches.

Just to clarify on the ticket situation, if you want to guarantee a ticket, I recommend that you phone our office on 01538 750755. Any left over tickets will be sold on the day at Kingsley & Froghall station.

 

Good turnout today, middle trip especially looked very full. Was very good to see 5199 stretch her legs and make the Peak Moorlands echo a bit to the sound of a GWR loco, even if the 33 helped a fair bit with the 7coaches.

 

At the CVR members day, we were given a little booklet that states the CVR will operate specials up Cauldon Lowe in addition to their normal services on the following days;
26/27 March (Diesel Gala)
22 April
7/8 May
4/5 June
2/3 July
6/7 August
3/4 September

Looks like 5199 could be busy...

 

As mentioned in the latest issue of Railway Magazine, CVR are currently in talks to hire in another loco. Greg Wilson's other USATC S160 is being progressed with the aim of having it running this year.
