Looks like I was right there with you Oli - like the way you used the wall to underline them mind. I've watched my video back of them there and before the bark becomes clearly audible, there's just a wave of paparazzi shutter releases.... even with the impending stop signal, the crews still put on a display and it was one of those magic moments that I'm glad many of us were able to enjoy.

Shame some of those ignoramouses who were happy to trample down walls in their quest for a shot didn't have the courtesy to use legal rights of way, or make good the damage caused.

Those fields are not a playground, but working farmland, and whilst I will uphold to the "N"th The right to use public rights of way, my utter contempt for those who behave in that way, block accesses etc, is unprintable.

Its lambing season at the moment so the last thing needed is stock disturbed or straying, and an open invitation for those on the receiving end to make it difficult next time round.

The rights of way and to roam in the Peak were hard won - please don't diminish that effort by abusing them.

Couldn't agree more - the so-called 'right to roam' most certainly does not extend to every square foot of land! This sort of behaviour endears the roaming photographer to no one, least of all the farmer and landowner, at this time of year, and, as a landowner in the Peak District myself, I take a dim view of it.

Dry stone walls in the Peak District don't rebuild themselves, so I trust the culprits dutifully stayed to make good the damage. Act responsibly in the countryside (as the majority generally do) and, if damage occurs, act appropriately.

Aye, and some (if not all) those farmers have got guns, big uns. They take a dim view of their property or stock being damaged. :photo: ,,,,,,,,,,,, :laser:

Just appalling - who the hell do these idiots think they are? I suggest a group of us go round their house and trash the place, see how they like it. Grow up or face the consequences.

Re: "Act responsibly in the countryside (as the majority generally do)"

Don’t immediately tar all ‘linesiders’ with the same brush! (Indeed, you are one yourself and I do know that you were in the area with your camera when the train went into Buxton … ‘cos I was talking to you myself!)

I most certainly don't wish to tar them all and I am, as you rightly point out, a linesider myself!

There really should be no problem with linesiding; my point, as you say, is it only takes one fool to ruin it for everyone else.

Farmers can be a bit more subtle than that Victor - Many years ago I had an occasion to ask anglers who wouldn't move to either go or face the consequences. Having been given the two finger salute it was too good to miss. Back home - hitch up the Fergie to a slurry tanker and load up 250 gallons of best chicken slurry.

Return to pond and roll by twenty feet from the bank with the spray set at thirty - that made them move - I wonder if their wives and girlfriends let them back in the house? :emptybath:

A chap did that in our locality when he accidentally let a load spray a row of terraced houses.............from memory he was hauled before the beak and got a hefty fine.

Can't argue with that Frank, if a man has some work to do, slurry spreading or whatever, it's only right that a man gets on with the job. I think you did a perfectly reasonable thing when you asked em to move. :pound:

These landowners want to take a tip from the ever welcoming ladies at Brushfield Farm in the Peak District. I even thought long and hard before walking down the drive, even though it's a public footpath!

Indeed some great shots, would have gone down to see Leander in Lancaster on Saturday morning but couldn't raise myself from bed - so just listened to her climbing the bank from bed - she is a beauty!

Looking a little battle weary by the close of play at Preston - http://andrewstransport.fotopic.net/p69232768.html just out on interest what is the reference of the smallplate on the middle lamp bracket?

It is a small memorial to the late Dr Peter Beet, who bought Leander (from Severn Valley?) by his son Chris, who now owns the loco.

    Hope that helps
