You say body sode wear?, I can only assume that the veneer on the plywood is cracking. An easy quick fix here is to glue and screw a much thinner panel over the top.

Unless you need to replace the whole roof,a 6mm ply over the whole of the roof will suffice with a couple of layers of synthetic torch on roof underfelt followed by a couple of coats of silver paint to stop the tar melting in the summer.

Could you post some pictures of it please?

    Regards
    Chris

Plenty of freights had more than one brake van at the rear. Although there were plenty of prototypical examples, brakes at each end of a train were far more unusual. I look forward to returning to Hampshire and enjoying the freight set again. Keep up the fantastic work!

Many thanks to you although work has slowed down at the moment due to the weather. However we always find something to do undercover when the going gets tough.

When you have 30 plus paying photographers and all their gear they have to travel in these vans hence two which were full in between locations.

Can anyone from the Mid-Hants confirm whether GWR chaired sleeper wagon DW100713 is still on the line? There is an unnumbered example on the Glos-Warks Railway, and if DW100713 has moved from the Mid-Hants, then this seems the most likely candidate.

    Thanks

This list is not up-to-date though... hence why I asked.

e.g. LMS SLF 381 has been scrapped
    e.g. W 17392 has moved to Glos-Warks Railway

    Hi:

GWR sleeper wagon DW100713 has NOT moved from the Mid-Hants, it is in the Meon siding at Alton.

Apologies for not getting back sooner as I wanted to confirm this with our wagon group Chairman, Chris Le Corney first.

    Best regards

Thanks. The reason I asked is that the final digit of the number stamped in the solebar looks like a 3 and a 7 superimposed. So if 100713 is still at Alton, the one at the Glos-Warks must be 100717.

Just to bump this thread up a bit and to enquire about progress. How is the search for a Queen Mary Brakevan coming along? I for one would love to see one of these at the MHR.

Not very successfully I am afraid however thank you for asking.

1,Others from the wagon group looked at the one that was burned out at the Swanage Railway and decided that there was too much work on it to do. I think this one went to the Llangollen ?

2, I put in a bid for the last one on the big Railway at Bescot. This was mechanically sound, air and vacuum braked though there was not one piece of sound timber in it. I was told that my bid was OTT, however I was still out bid by a private buyer.

3,There is one I am chasing in Wales and if anyone knows how I might contact the owner of the one at the Foxfield Railway, I would be grateful. Funding is available and we have the expertise to restore one as I was heavily involved with the restoration of the one on the Bluebell Railway, so if anyone out there has one and is short of funds, rest assured your reluctant sale would be going to a good home.

    Kindest regards
    Chris:

    Afternoon folks :

Just a quick update to say that we have had a very successful 2 day photo charter thanks to Matt Allan and Warwick Falconer, and a first for the Mid-Hants, a van train on our very busy Spring Steam Gala; photographs and video,s you have perhaps seen on this forum and in the "comics".

The line up though is about to change as we have just out shopped a open "Tube" at Medstead and a "shock open " at Alton with a" Pipe"open half way through a full restoration at Medstead.

In the new shed at Ropley ex SECR PMV, now S R S1995 has had the roof completed and should be painted and out shopped in a few weeks time.

The next project we have is a ex MOD Southern Railway Brake Van with lookouts from 1942. It has dual vacuum cylinders on one end and inside a complete vacuum brake plus a hand brake for use with either fitted or un-fitted rakes, the outside will be out shopped in Bauxite
I have questions please, what would the interior be and what livery as our has been knocked about somewhat. At present the interior has been covered with hardboard which is now compost and covering up rotting wood behind it, so should the interior walls be tongue and grooved?
My money for the livery would been cream above waist level with dark brown below though if someone will tell me different I would be most grateful.
The seat and side swab trimming, any recommendations on colours please?

    Over to you experts
    Best regards

    Hi Chris,
When I obtained my SR Pill Box, it had hardboard interior panels.
It was in a bit of a state, but bottom half of the interior was red / crimson, and upper half was white.
Not sure if this was original or not.
I have heard of the dark brown at the bottom and cream above, but I thought that was a SR thing?
Mine is now all in cream !
Just to confuse you further, one seat was in black - the other in dark Maroon.
If you want any pics then please let me know.

    Good luck!

    Andy.
