Anyone know if it is in guage to run via Chester & Gresford Bank [as per GBIV proposed routing] or is it going to have to go via Crewe

I would be very suprised if it's in gauge for Gobowen unless there has been some work done that way, I think anything bigger than a Black 5 struggles.

Does anyone know when 6024 is moving down to the MHR? I missed her ML movement last time she came as it was quite late I think.

Interesting. I've just heard that 5029 has picked up this turn. My source has about a 70% record on this sort of thing, so I guess we'll wait and see....

5029 has been allocated that bit of GB4 for some time now.I suppose it will be in position for the last bit after working that but all I have heard is its 6024 Preston-Bristol.

    I still think 6024 should do Bristol-Penzance and 70013+45305 do Preston-Bristol.....

Unfortunately 6024 cannot do the Bristol - Penzance leg as along with many other locos it is out of guage at Hayle westbound. Only standard classes and Black 5's appear to be within guage.

I know they got round it on a trip last year but it involve a reversal and wrong line working which I suppose rules it out altogether. Just seems it would be fitting to have the right locos on their original lines, well it is GWR 176.............

6024 out of Penzance is hardly on its original line... Kings only went as far as Plymouth during the days of steam.

    Pedant...

But its now not days of steam, if the clearances were ok the King would go there. To say they didnt go there in days of steam so they cant now is silly. how many Kings got to Preston in days of steam??Cornwall main line is ex GWR and 6024 is ex GWR is all I was saying, its ok for 6024 to do Bristol-Plymouth but although it can(clearances allowing) go to Penzance rip it off at Plymouth.

From www.wsr.org.uk 'A round up of news snippets':

'King Edward 1 has a boiler extension until March next year and when this expires it is hoped the overhaul will take place at Williton'

Glad to hear it. So, when will both working Kings meet for the first time? Who's going to promote the first mainline trip involving them both? KEII should be certified by the autumn, IIRC.

Just spotted that 6024 has a light engine run booked from Didcot to Margam on 30th April, implying she's going to Didcot some time after the MHR gala. Maybe the Kings will meet sooner rather than later?

Well let's hope it is soon. Looking on MHR Website, 6024 is doing a few driver experiences, don't know the dates off the top of my head without looking, so you'd assume she'd be leaving soon after her involvement at MHR. Can't wait to see them both side by side and fingers crossed, for a double header in 2012 at some point!

It's reported in the GB IV thread that 6024 has been found to be out of guage for some part of the Preston - Shrewsbury - Bristol leg, and has been replaced by 5029.
