Regarding the on-line ordering of the Timetable booklet - great idea, but... how about the option to download a PDF (after payment, of course) instead of waiting for a paper copy to be posted? Just a thought...

  3. 70000 is on the Minehead diagram (starting 10.15am from Minehead); 88 is on the Bishops Lydeard diagram. The Auto fills in the gaps (altho the 2nd and 3rd trips are between Minehead and Watchet only). No goods as far as I can tell on the Weds...

  5. I have no confirmation, yet, but I'd imagine there is a clue in message #139 ;-)

WOW!! Didn't see that one coming.... Nice though :)

Also is the Williton footbridge likely to be ready for use?

  12. Williton footbridge is now in place - pictures soon on www.wsr.org.uk (after I've had me lunch!) - but I doubt it will be ready for use just yet.

Are they going to try? It would be great if it was ready at the gala, One would have thought they would have all the wood ready to place in?!! . Or knowing the WSR , maybe not! 'sigh'.

  16. I've no idea actually! Just my hunch perhaps based on similar ground to your last comment :))

Personally, I'm rather sad to see a footbridge appearing on the WSR. One of the great things about WSR galas is that at all three passing places you can easily change trains on the flat without having to rush over a bridge, pushing past people who are just using them as a vantage point for photos etc. The thing that summed up the WSR for me a few years ago, when people were hurrying to swap trains (at Williton, I think) was the member of staff who told people not to run as the train will wait 'cos they run the trains for the passengers - some other railways could do well to take note.

I can never understand the people who rush around at galas trying to change platforms quickly, knocking other folk out of the way - completely crazy!!!
I would much prefer the railways running the service to the timetable, and not allowing trains to wait for people to cross!!
Some railways even block crossing and footbridges to prevent this happening - good on them!!!

We are not completely crazy, and no one knocks folk out of the way on purpose. We are merely maximising our travel opportunities. Most railways allow enough time for people to make their way from one train to another, and rightly so, as we are paying for the privilege of travelling, and I personally would be furious if I were denied access to a waiting train in the circumstances that you are describing. Provided people don't dawdle unreasonably at places like Williton, there should always be plenty of time to change over anyway, as the token exchange takes a few minutes.
