Hey ho, I suppose that Tyseley is the only place that can or would have a loco or two to spare at short notice.

What gets my goat however, gauging issues aside, the MHR has been promoting this gala & the fact that KE1 would be the star turn since JANUARY!, Just because the Worst Somerset Railway hasnt got one of its resident locos available - what gives them the right to hijack someone else's event, there by giving the MHR a major headache in trying to come up with an alternative which by rights should be the WSR's problem (talk about being kicked in the gonads!) Why couldnt they go and ask Tyseley nicely & let us keep the King? :frusty::frusty::mad2:

It was known a week ago by the MHR and the WSR that the King was out of gauge to Alton.

Your frustration has clouded your reasoning. As I understand it, the loco is unable to travel to MHR due to gauging issues. Thus it became available and the WSR have secured its use for the latter part of the WSR's Spring Gala. So I think your comment about WSR hijacking the MHR's event is quite wrong and I'm sure when you have confirmed the facts you'll understand that 6024 missing from the MHR event is nothing to do with the WSR and perhaps you'd be kind enough to acknowledge your misunderstanding?

If that's the case, then why is the MHR still advertising the fact including updating the loco roster on Monday to include 6024?

My sincere apologies Steve to you and the WSR,

Indeed I was at the time of venting my frustrations unaware the KE1 is too fat to fit down the whole route!

And As I have already posted, if this was known, then why continue to advertise her attendance including the loco roster?

Anyway I'm sure a suitable alternative can be found (fingers crossed), still I,m looking forward to next weekend regardless!.

Thanks Dave. No worries. I hope a replacement can be found and I'm sure you will enjoy the event. I wish the WSR could have two GWR 4-4-0s for a future Gala!

    Your welcome Steve.

I'm sure your wish will come true one day!

    But if you could get two A4's an A1, B1, K1 & a K4, then I might just be tempted to visit:madgrin:

Believe me, we tried every which way to get it there by rail. But the NR computer said No (confirmed finally on Tuesday).

Be interested to know whats changed with the gauging since the King has been there twice before in recent times. It would also be helpful if these things were known before a railway goes to the expence of advertising things - I feel for the MHR on this one... NR cock up again - why they have to keep dicking around with the trackbeds - I thought in the modern network of right to path they should be making sure any engineering work does not alter the gauging and thus stop rolling stock navigating part of the network which they use to be able to!!

I see on the MHR web site that the KING is still being advertised for the gala and also for Drive a King for a Day. Is this speculation that King Edward 1 is out of gauge and won’t we visiting?

If this is true then the loco roast/time table will need to be amended again. Will 3440 and 9017 be still facing out of Alresford or will they revert back to smoke boxes out of Alton again?

With the two visiting GWR 4-4-0's and an impressive home fleet, including of course the debut of No 31806, the MHR will, I am sure, still be able to put on an excellent show at their gala even without No 6024.

IF !! the issues with the King are not able to be rectiified with NR then I would be more than happy to see the two 4.4.0s out on their own without a pilot with some carefull juggling they could work a 4 coach set minus a Buffet turn and turn about with the other locos taking turns on the other two coaching sets and the van train.
However let see what happens as its quite rightly pointed out the MHR are still hoping to sort the problem and its the visiting engines that are the more important locos even over 31806.
For those interested here are two links to a two day charter on the MHR Monday and Tuesday with 31806

Nr and Gauging can hardly be blamed on the organisers , the group responsible for the king tried every way to move her by rail to the MHR.

well, as spud 1 is staying at minehead can they send down Britiania instead , and it would be in keeping britianias did work on the western region
At least we know a standard will fit, it seems that these days thats all that will fit if you want a go anywhere loco

Does anyone know what the latest on Lord Nelson is? Is it likely to be ready for the gala?

its a pity that they couldnt have borrowed the other king from didcot , be a good way of running him in, would an original king without cut down roof and top feed fit though? , but i guess that the home fleet are more that capable of making up for the missing visitor be good to see a u boat working again , i have fond memories of 31806 ,never got to fire her but saw her in steam in the early days many times, more than capable of taking 5 mk1s unaided up the hill
