Corridor Second 24006 of Lot 30002 built Derby 1951, and formerly at the West Somerset Railway, used to be described as the oldest surviving Mk1 coach. It was the seventh of 180 coaches of the very first Mk1 production lot. I am not sure where it is now. I suspect that it is a few months older than 1013 which was the last coach of Lot 30014 and was built in September 1951

Carriage Database says it's at Chasewater, but needs a bit of work judging by the photo!

That photo is 5 years old. I'm sure when I was there in September it looked better than that. I have a feeling it was in the passenger set stabled in the platform.

On the same topic concerning BR Mk1stock. I made a visit to Swanage Railway last weekend and I noticed they have a Mk1 mini buffet coach S9015. This coach had a every small buffet at the far end of the coach. Is this authentic. I was under the impression the buffet should be towards the centre of the coach.

i can remember some Mk2's on the exeter service having a mini buffet, but not any Mk1's, i would expect that this is a post preservation mod

This is one of the Mk.1 "Micro-buffets" which were converted in BR days:

Not to be confused with the Auto buffet which was an Sk with a compartment removed and vending machines. The swanage coach has had post preservation conversion to include the disabled section although the buffet area is a BR mod. Seems that the GWR have made the same conversion of the brake area to a disabled section.
