6023 King Edward 11

She looks great. I wonder will they be persuaded to keep her in this livery a bit longer? Who's for a meeting of 6023, 60007 and 46233 in Blue at Didcot?

 

Now that sounds like a great idea what a picture what a photograph

 

Prefer the idea of 6000, 6023 & 6024 tbh

Now, just because of what's going on on another thread here, how about

6000 in green
6023 in blue
and.....

6024 in red
as a line-up that would pull in a lot of people?

Did any of the Kings ever appear in British Railways red ?
As much as I like Great Western green locomotives, a red, blue and green King line up

As far as I'm aware no ex-GWR locomotive was ever painted red but I bet someone now will prove me wrong! I'm not counting "Olton Hall" in its "Hogwarts" livery of course. Having seen the maroon Hall in action on the GWR it has a very smart paint job but the colour doesn't really suit the profile and embellishments (brass etc) of the locomotive but that could just be because its unusual. The Blue King was an historically correct scheme and this, I'm sure will be awesome if the photos posted thus far are any clue. I'm only very sorry that I can't visit Didcot on 2 April!

 

I vaguely remember reading somewhere that sometime in Churchward days a large Prairie was outshopped in the GWR's carriage crimson lake livery, just to see how it looked. It didn't last long.

I think 6023 is "convertable", can be either height.

 

I wasn't laying blame to any particular person.

 

My sense of humour got the better of me. I will try not to let it happen again........ :caked:

 

if she's intended for mainline, i wouldn't have though 6023 was full height?

As buseng said, she's convertible - interchangeable chimney, cab roof, whistles lay horizontal etc - it's all in the steam beano this month.

 

She is full height at the moment, but has a cut down cab & safety valve assembly when operating on the main line. Which is easily changed over.

 

what, so it has two cabs? Bet that took some expense

 

Rather it has two cab roofs and a removable section in the frontsheet to reduce the height, but 2 chimneys, 2 safety valve bonnets and the whistles can be remounted horizontally.
