Nice Photos Steve. Probably give Zenfolio a trial myself soon, but holding off at the moment to see if Pikfu, when/if it appears, comes up to fotopic standard. I personally miss fotopic. Flickr, OK, but layout does not do it for me.

Also agree that Zenfolio seems i good choice. I am also trialing this at the moment as well as smugmug and moonfruit. Zenfolio is winning at the moment,

A really good site so far Phil!! :)

I think I may have to go with this site. I've been looking at others; but this seems the simplest as well as professional.

Don't care what Fotopic does now, if it does come back the only thing that I will be doing is deleting the stuff as and when it gets transferred to our new site at Zenfolio . If anybody wants to subscribe to Zenfolio and would like a few dollars off then please use referral code 4W9-YK1-1YV.

TBH, I feel sorry for Joel and his new Pikfu venture - if Fotopic had held on for a couple more months then I am sure many of the people who have now subscribed elsewhere would have been quite happy to move over; especially if - as rumoured - a program to transfer your files across was provided. In fact there is already one called Migratr which will do this between some services, Fotopic is not supported though.

If the Fotopic servers are not running then no transfer program can possibly work, and if the Fotopic servers were running then we wouldn't be in this mess in the first place.

Lucky for me - I downloaded all my collections back as rar files just before the site disappeared.

On unpacking these rar files, I have found two icons with the pictures, and opening and viewing them using notepad I have found one to be the collection description used in fotopic and the other the text of all the comments used in that collection. A bit of cutting & pasting its easy to get them back and use on web another site picture description.
Slowly Im getting all my collections put up on my own webby site with comments - so far only 17 up but still another 130 plus to go.

That is the problem, Joel has already said this elsewhere. However I am sure that there would have been a mass stampede to Pikfu when it started even if Fotopic had kept going.

Thanks 34007, give it a try. It seems to be very flexible.

I spoke to the accountant who gave me the telephone number of the man owns the company a Mr Steve Dyer. He tells me the web site will be back on line soon as they are setting up a new site. I Did tell him there are a lot of un happy people out there as you have failed to tell us what is happening to the Fotopic web site. A man called Joel is at present transferring all the data onto another server ,Mr Dyers is going to call me later today and give me some more information and the down time of the Fotopic web site.

I have signed up for the newsletters but heard nothing yet. I would like to just be able to access my old account to see what I posted up in the past and captions as I didn't archive what I uploaded in seperate files (I do now!) and what I uploaded was by date only, I never bothered renaming the original files. I am quite happy with Smugmug and will stick to that for now.
