The more we seem to here about this the more intriguing it becomes. ADB confirms it looked green then suddenly we get that at least one side is being/has been painted.

It seems from the same thread on RMWeb having just looked that the NYMR have it as a guest for one of its galas and says it will be Garter Blue but again as Dominion of New Zealand

I Think you are referring to discussion taking place on the unofficial NYMR website, which is unconfirmed discussion (as on here) rather than a statement of fact. I do not believe there is anything on the Gala pages of their Official website dealing with this issue!

I just saw it on RMWeb. They didn't say what they were refering to the forum or the official site.

I wonder if fitting the valances over the valve gear gives the engine a different guaging profile, and NR will have to "regauge" routes it might use?

Looking at images of the "valanced" A4's it is difficult to tell. The valancing follows a straight/level line from what is the level of the base of the tender tank to over the rear wheel of the front bogie where the valancing turns downward to what looks like the level of the bottom of the cylinder cladding. Might be an issue at curved platforms?

Yes interesting point - one I was wondering about as well.

Would it be able to run on the mainline with valances? It wouldn't exactly be easy to inspect/fault-find the valve gear in an emergency - however there are engines with inside valve gear that run so perhaps not.

Probably best to avoid passing on unsubstantiated hearsay then, this is how rumours start!

We like rumours! Without passing on unsubstantiated hearsay, there'd be far fewer threads here. in fact come to think of it this whole thread is based on unsubstantiated hearsay.......

Umm but this whole thread is currently based on rumour at the moment. As Steve says there wouldn't be many threads round here if there was no rumour.

But....the problem with your post was that you made suggested that it was a fact from the NYMR website, a site you had not even taken a couple of minutes to check out for your self before rushing to post here!

To be fair, what Dan said was "It seems from the same thread on RMWeb having just looked, that the NYMR have it as a guest ....." So it was clear he was passing on forum gossip. Like we do :)

Indeed, even what I posted has no substantiated fact behind it. Just quoting one person on another web forum who stated, "there is now some blue paint on her". This could be fact, it could be cobblers, it could be from someone 'in on it' deliberately and cleverly trying to confuse the issue, knowing how these things spread. But I thought it was worth pointing out as someone had stated it as fact, rather than the usual "apparently, my mates friend's contact says xyz..."

As has been said, we haven't got long to find out either way. Personally my backside hurts from sitting on the fence - I'm not convinced by a long chalk, but at the same time I wouldn't say it's unlikely to happen either - especially as the modifications are relatively simple, very desirable, and the owner is able to fund them without bringing out the begging bowl.

I was just repoting from RMWeb I never stated it as fact. The post on RMWeb had no link to either the official NYMR website or the NYMR Unofficial Forum. Its been cleared up that it was the forum. I think I'm going to leave it there on this matter as I don't want to upset anyone or start an arguement.

As B17 61606 says we haven't long to wait to find out whether its true or a very well planned April Fools.

The point I am trying to make here is that, yes we all post here-say from time to time. HOWEVER before stating that something is posted as a fact on a railway's website it is always best to spend a couple of moments checking it out for yourself before repeating something that a) is not true and b) easily checkable!

Couldn't even see 60019 when we passed Southall yesterday morning on our way down to the WSR, Green Train rake was in the way.

    Regards,

It's not in the mainshed, it's in the small workshop shed adjacent to the mainline (where 6100 used to be), at the Hanwell end of the mainshed. You can see it clearly through the windows.

I have a feeling its not going to be repainted sadly as much as I'd like to see it. But will be happy if she is.

I decided to Email Hetitage Railway to ask them to confirm whether or not this is an April Fool. I await the response and will share it if and when received. If it does turn out to be an AF (which I don't normally mind - they are usually so obviously a wind up), in this case I think it's a step too far, given that it was printed on the front cover, presumably with a view to increasing sales of the magazine.

I think you'll find it's far from the first April Fool to feature on the cover of a rail magazine (assuming it is indeed an April Fool).
