Just a note to say that future linesiding at Bincombe Bank, near the tunnels, will be much easier and quieter from now on. The new Weymouth Relief Road opened on March 17 and, the old road around the hairpin bend is closed. It will become a cycle path within about 3 months, so should be done by the time the summer specials start running to Weymouth.
Should make things much more pleasant for all of us.

No I do not currently volunteer
When I visited the area last summer to film Scots Guardsman, I noticed that most of the new road appeared to be hidden by embankments.
I hope that the situation has not changed. <BJ>

Where will be the parking for this location? On the one occasion I've been there I used the layby between the two tunnels.

Looks like there will be a couple of laybys on the relief road about 500m south of the Bincombe Junction. Otherwise presume try and find a spot on the roads either side of the junction (Ridgeway Hill/Bincombe Lane).

Thanks. I hope to get down that way for a couple of runs later this year although I'm also looking forward to making my first climb of the bank behind steam.

I's nice to see a modern development that makes life easier for the photographer.

The new Bincombe junction will allow access under the new A354, to the lane that used to come off the hairpin so, there should be parking along there. That also connects to the old A354 down under the rly bridge to Upwey but, probably with yellow lines. The old section round the hairpin and over the line will be the cyclepath. No traffic to worry about, just cyclists hurtling down the hill! They have already dug up most of the road there.
