    well now I've got the same thing and texts don't stop, I'm just getting "number not in use" and I've sent it twice, Hey I'm still getting texts, this is balderdash, you owe me now seven texts. turn it off, now.

    OK, got some fantastic news! we can now track Rail tours on-line LIVE to your mobile phone and computer. The GPS system has undergone some pretty intensive testing and scrutiny, and the problems we have had, have been overcome.

    The non public rail tour test we ran was not 100%, However we can track, times, location etc. Everything you need to track your favoured rail tour.

    We have got one more non public test, then after that, I hope with the help or railtour companies, we'll be ready to send location details to anyone subscribed.

    Ralph posted a message on the 70000 07 April thread requesting more people to send in updates from the lineside after a tour has passed by. Normally I create a blank message on my phone in the format:

    NATPRES tXXXXx

    I can then just update and send message, doesn't take too long. I know there is competition going on at present but just wondering if there was any quicker way to send in updates. When I subscribe I elect to get a confirmation message which costs 6p I think. The message includes the tour code, is there any way to just reply to this message with your update without having to configure a separate message and then search for correct number to send the reply to? Perhaps just send the STOP command to the confirmation message when you don't need any more updates too?

    I create a template before I go out on the day similiar to your blank message, 'Natpres tXXXXx' this can then be used for every update. OK so for the first you have to scroll through the N's in your phone book for the number, but after the first, this number will be either near, or at the top of your recently used numbers. I don't bother with the confirmation message. Not sure about the reply to confirmation though, Glyn will have to answer that one. He should also be able to confirm how many were subscribed

    Just to add in this (more relevant) thread, as mentioned in the 70000 Cathedrals 7th of April thread, there was a distinct lack of updates for this tour. A 12 hour gap between 10am & 10pm(mine) ironically both from Tilehurst.

    I am trying to make things easier to send in sms messages.
    However there maybe limits to the system, I need to find these limits and exploit them.

    There is the new mobile phone app, you can send messages from there, you only need to put in the update itself, you don't need to worry about the NATPRES tXXXX bit.

    The service is really hit and miss at the moment. I don't believe that 90% of the people that follow rail tours actual know about the service. And the fact it's free to send in updates.
    I also believe it's something to do with the perceived complex nature of sending in updates.

    Maybe it would be worth adding at the end of each update sent out "Please send your own update when you have seen the train"
