Richard Trevithick is 240 Today! :clap2:

Where would todays railways be if Richard Trevithick had not either been born or decided that the railways or Steam Engine was not going to interest him..

Livery is accurate too, but wouldn't it look better in BR black?

I wonder how many people using Google will know what it's all about, yesterday it was of course Yuri Gagarin, but again you wonder how many even appreciated the significance of the logo change.

If you roll your mouse cursor over the image it does say it's the mans 240th.
There are two things missing from the image........there's no diesel on the back and no trespassing linesiders.:)
Now where's the humour key on my keyboard?
I wonder what he would have made of having this named after him?.......http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQXHW7igTCQ

I was wondering....do you actually have "birthdays" once you depart this mortal coil?

Maybe more accurate to say "240th anniversary of the birth of Richard Trevithick"...?

We owe him much. He designed the first practical steam locomotive to run on rails, four were built to his designs, the most famous being the Penydarren engine. The success at this time was held back by the engines being too heavy for the then wooden rails.

    That Google logo is superb!

And a 'happy birthday' to the great man, of course :)

I think he'd have been thrilled that his name lives on, and rides the rails still.

It is a shame that the Britannias didn't take on the name of important locomotive and railway engineers. 70047, Richard Trevithick, perhaps!

If a named 37 is not to his taste as he looks down, maybe later in the year when the replica "Catch-me-who-can" takes to the rails under its own power rather than operating as a stationary engine it will give him more pleasure:

Mmm, but I wouldn't want to be within range of pieces of shattered cast iron when the regulator was opened...
