This was the scene just before Syston last Saturday 9th April, 2011.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m98Ub32DXuA

Along with us being stopped, several service trains were also stopped. We will wait to see if any financial penalties are applied to the tour. If there are, then I wouldn't want to be the people easily identified in the video, along with the person taking it!

This will be used as just another reason to ban steam on the mainline, and believe me, there are many people who would like to see just that.

Whoever these people are were breaking the law, delaying hundreds of people, putting themselves at risk and generally being idiots!

Just think about your actions and the consequences to others!

Just what I said in my reply to Martin Butler in the steam/diesel thread.

    Ben

the message has been relayed time and again on this forum and I think a little credit where credit is due , in the main the images and video's linked on here are from legal positions . None of us wish to see steam off the main line and generally support any action that takes a trespasser to task

Whilst someone has a camera it doesn't necessarily make them a "Railway enthusiast" per se . A number of individuals on the video don't have camera's on them and I think we need to be careful not to alienate the genuine goodwill of most true railway enthusiasts

Now I suggest if you can the video is copied as our cameraman may soon get wind of the trouble he is in and remove it

I've just watched that three times just to make sure that what i was seeing was for real! Madness utter Madness!

I cannot believe people can be THAT stupid, not only trespassing but also putting their lives in danger.

I sincerely hope that they can be identified, caught & prosecuted with the fines to Match.

    Ben,

Have you thought about taking stills off the video to give to the Old Bill/ local papers?

This is the video uploader's answer, "that was not the reason for the slow moving. 6201 had to stop at syston for a turbostar 170 to come past, we were on One of 2!!!! crossings at cossington. but in some respects yes, the people on the line should be." Also someone called National Preservation has posted a comment, not sure if they are using the name legally.

This thing is becoming very part and parcel of videos on youtube where people film at so called public crossings but move along a bit and think its ok but we all have our own views on what is right and wrong . Thing is what can be done about this if there dont seem to be any rules as to what you can do and cant . If you see someone and say something you are bound to get a mouthfull of abuse anyway . As Bob Meanley said on the East Midlander thread one of the fools was standing with one foot on the cess rail with his back to oncoming traffic. He'd obviously forgotten to pack his brain along with his camera.
You don't need to go on a PTS course to realise just how stupid that man was.

From what I understand a foot crossing is exactly that. A place to cross the railway on foot as long as you take heed of the warning notices about how to cross. It isn't a public right of way and should be treated as such. Because there's a foot crossing it doesn't give you the right to wander down the track (no matter how short the distance) and you are only supposed to be there if you intend to cross the railway to continue your journey. Obviously if you happen to be at the crossing as a steam train approaches and you wish to take a photo then that's okay. But wandering about the railway just because you came through a gate......no way.

Exactly. What people will be doing next is photographing from the four foot of the adjacent line because it's 'on a foot crossing'. Crossing are crossings!

Looking at that video again there are three people well off the crossing who didn't have cameras or Ian Allan/ Platform Five books in their hands so in no way could they be described as linesiders who had inadvertently strayed from the crossing so why were they there?

That is just stupidity right there. No one seemed to take notice of one of 6201's crew trying to warn tell them to move away. Lets hope they are prosecuted/
