The coat of paint has certainly raised the engines profile. Thanks to all involved in the change of clothes on her, she looks stunning!

Saw her at Grove Road crossing just outside Retford, shame she was drifting with the reg shut, but looked just the part. Well done!
I suppose an A4 in Apple Green would be asking too much but apart from wartime black that is the only livery we have'nt seen

We've not seen British Railways 'purple' either. Nor have we seen silver in steam.

All the arguments about authenticity can be amusing at times. We can consider ourselves very lucky to have 2 nearly 3 mainline operational A4's. As otheres have said with 3 theres a chance for differant liveries. Unlike LMS princess coronation's where theres only 2 unstreamlined and 1 streamlined only 1 is going to be on the mainline in the forseable future so the descion on liveries is much more complicated one.

RE an Apple Green A4, it would be nice to see its such a shame that the other A4 which was last in operation with Bittern, Kingfisher was not preserved. That was painted Apple Green originally. Although if she had been saved the purists would have insisted that she could be painted Apple Green but have the daft looking whole smokebox area painted Black instead of it the normal curve that A4s have.

Actually 2 Duchess could be together soon. York have confirmed that they want 6229 to steam and may be quicker than people expected it to and 6233 is getting on well with its overhaul. 6229 will look good in steam with 4492.

What a sad man! He'll just have to wait until UoSA returns (unless someone can persuade Sir John to adopt a different livery. No one has done an A4 in apple green for a few years....)

Here's a short video of 4492 doing what she was built for!

She really looks stunning! I love the garter blue livery, and yesterday made up, in part, for having missed Mallard's all-too-brief mainline stint. From a distance, the valences make a big difference to the appearance, especially with the chrome (?) strip along the bottom edge. The red wheels don't really show up in these shots, sadly. Will have try to get in a little closer next time. I'm really looking forward to welcoming her back to the MHR in October, with Tornado. I'm already imagining them lined up outside Ropley shed alongside Wadebridge, Nellie and the others...

Unless somethings changed, I thought it was SNG at the Mid Hants in October, though Bittern would DEFINITELY be nice....................

Excellent Mark - what an exceptional job by Southall. All we need now is a Gresley Teak support coach ;-).

Out of interest how many A4's carried Apple Green. Also where is the other Beavertail . Is it at Barrow Hill? That would look nice with 4492.

From memory the following carried Apple Green : 4482, 4483, 4484, 4485, 4486, 4487, 4493, 4494 and 4495. 4495's spell in green was short lived as she was renamed Golden Fleece and repainted Garter Blue in the same month as she was built and turned out in green. One other variation was 4489 which as Woodcock ran for a short period in workshop grey before renaming as Dominion of Canada and repainting Garter Blue.

I'll second both those comments! Just wondering about a bit of Scumbling (is that the right word for teak effect paint?) on both support coach and second tender - and photoshop enthusiasts care to try that one out?!

I've been trying to turn the support coach into the two tone blue of the Coronation set but whilst I've been able to change the hues to a good approximation of the colours required, the lining and name still show. Need to improve my Photoshop skills.

What a strange video that is. I wondered what I was looking at as a Class 20 roared past in the first few seconds. Then, when eventually 4492 appears it's behind a purple filter!

Thank you both for the info. Nice mock ups as well northernblue109. BR Apple Green doesn't really suit 60007 in the last one.

Actually, just repainting the existing Mk1 in Coronation two-tone blue would look alright.

Sorry about the confusion about the MHR visitor. I guess we'll have to wait a little longer to see DoNZ on-shed at Ropley.

Some years ago the 4498 boys repainted their support coach in "Coronation" livery. Funnily enough 4498 in Garter Blue looked OK on blue and grey Mark Ones.
