But I'd back an Osprey against a Mallard in a race any day!

So, now we know Mallard is off to Germany. Nice. I wonder if anyone has thought of the brilliant idea of No. 05.002 coming to the NRM to recipricate. Now surely that would bring the crowds in.

Thats True. I'd forgot that. Anyway, since my last reply I've discovered that the prospect of No. 05.002 coming to York is not possible. It's already been looked into.

I would have thought that access would be a major problem in attempting to get 05.002 into the York site?

The height of the loco is the problem, now the wires are with us.

Not to steal thunder, 18 201 has been re-certified for 180kph running in June.
    (thats 111mph).
Looks like Germany is planning a bit of high speed steam promotion.

The locomotive was featured on TV polska this evening, the relevence being 18 201 pulled in to Wroclaw today and will be in Wolsztyn next week.

Not the NRM website, but this, that I've just found, may explain a lot...

Mods - if this is regarded as inappropriate here, I'll understand :)

So how did they manage to get the Japanese 'Bullet Train' and Chinese 4-8-4 into the NRM building?

The Vulcan Foundry Engine(4-8-4)came in 1983/4 time, so before the wires. The 'Bullet' train is 13'-2" about, so is clear(just).
