    I don't speak for the NRM, but i seem to remember all the boiler mountings etc were reinstalled at the correct height before 6000 was put back on display, so is now out of gauge

    Surely the opportunity to line up the three Kings while they're all intact (6024 will be presumably dismantled for overhaul at the end of its ticket extension) is too good an opportunity to miss.

    The lowered "main line" safety valve cover and chimney of 6024 makes it look bigger, to my eyes. Kings stood very tall in service days and the very sensible height lowering modifications made to 6024 gave it the capability to go to places on the network that were once impossible. This is not meant as a criticism of the 6024 association, but I've always thought that the lowered chimney is a little too eliptical in profile making it slightly ugly from certain angles.

    Regarding the "graunching" noise from 6024 on the demo line, it surely couldn't have been anything serious or they wouldn't have kept running the loco on the double headed shuttle. It does sound quite alarming though, and it will be interesting to hear what was causing it.

    It is, when it came up from Swindon, the chimney and safety valve cover were taken off to get it into NRM.

    It's very noticeable when you look at the front of the engine - you wonder what's missing! Looks very good though - should make an interesting comparison with another blue engine at Bridgnorth in September.

    What makes you think it is missing...? Have you not noticed the shedcode PDN is alongside the bufferbeam.

    It just looks strange looking at an engine with a BR smokebox numberplate without an accompanying shedplate.

    They weren't added straight away, they had to come up the the BR system first.
    1501 during its most recent running ran with it allocation in the GW style, also PDN as well, but it was in BR livery.

    Painting/Drawing i see in a book, picture taken from mobile so poor quality, This looks better with shedplate, I know 6023 has PDN on the side. This picture has 83D which i beleive is Plymouth, And yeah i know its just a painting and can put anything on it before someone makes that comment, i just think she needs the shedplate.
